Night Vision

I use my x51v with some astronomy software which has a vision saver option that turns the screen into various shades of red/grey/black.
All that is except from the tool bars top and bottom, which remain on and blinding even at the lowest backlight setting.
Does anyone know of any software that does something that will minimise or hide the tool bars until I deed them.
I have a PC app called Niteview that switches off the wall paper, taskbar & the desktop. It was written for Win98 and still works great on Win XP.

Many thanks

Jools

No idea.. it does seem a glaring problem that looking at your axim will mess up your night vision for looking at the stars..

Maybe some sort acetate or smoked filter over the top would be useful?

Or, create a Today screen and amend the colour of the bars to black. Simply switch to the Today/Night screen whenever you run the software. :)

Simple to do with MS Theme Generator.

JoolsPalmer brings up an interesting topic, one that I had been mulling over mentioning if I ever got around to reviewing astronomy software...namely the fact that none of the programs I've ever looked at had the capability of a "red filter" schema to enable skywatchers to go out and use their Axims for astronomical reference in the field. Should I cut out some red cellphane and put that over my screen like Psionandy suggested?

With respect to JoolsPalmer's first comment, I wonder if Wisbar would accomdate that? I think Jogga's suggestion very good as well.

Not wanting to be flip, just thought Andie's post was covertly funny, TSK theme generator will also let you set up a today screen, and subsequent screens that are nightime freindly.

Have you tried adjusting the contrast?

Adjust the screen contrast:
Go to the registry
HKLM\ControlPanel\Contrast
Rename the Redirect key to xRedirect. (put in the .)
This places a Contrast icon on the Settings|System tab.

This can help in addition to the brightness settings.
