Glad you got there in the end. I've been on the phone for the last hour or so. I had no idea they changed the file extension. Does it work if you just rename the file and drop the X off the end?
From the Windows explorer pane the change of name in the "rename" does not change the Format ....it appears that the only way to change the format is to do it from inside the desktop or laptop Word 07 program:exc:
Back to even a larger picture is the textmaker program compatible with Word 07, to be able to cross-migrate documents?
In a similar topic, what would the axim community suggest is the best way to store documents on the Sd card when and if the Word program is running on the Main Device.....To explain, in sending the documents to the pda from Windows explorer it only locates the main device without the Sd Card on the drop down menu. Don't want to use up all my Device memory...

When you Explore to you device you can get to the SD or CF from Explorer. If you are in the folder view of explorer click the
I've owned Docs to Go for the Palm and loved it somewhat only for word processing (used MiniCalc for spreadsheet - much more advanced than docs 2 go). I also used WordSmith as well for some other functions that docs to go was missing. Then I migrated to the PPC and was shocked when working with Mobile Word and Excel.
So, I decided to try out TextMaker and PlanMaker to see if it'll suit my needs and boy was I ever surprised. The capabilities of this thing totally blew me away and the next thing I knew, I plopped the $$. Yes, it's pretty steep in pricing (especially for their single product), but compared to the amount of $$ I already spent on the Palm counterparts (that still doesn't quite equal Softmaker Office), it's actually quite a deal.
WordSmith - $29.95
MiniCalc - $19.99
Docs to Go Premium - $49.99

I just pop the CF into my card reader and work directly off of it on PPC and PC (and have backups on my desktop). I keep it in My Docs with Subfolders 'Documents' and 'Spreadsheets'. Further subdivided into categories for easy management of the files. I use TextMaker and PlanMaker which can navigate and retrieve my files from the storage card. I don't know if Mobile Office could do that (never used it except the one time when I first got my Axim in Oct.).

Do you mean the CF slot or an actual card reader by a usb cable, I can see how that would work for the PC...but if you want to originate a document in the Axim and then transfer to the pc to be reviewed ? I understand your organization just the part prior to it:rolling: Thanks in advance for the input:exc:

Oops. Sorry, I should have phrased it more properly. I originate my documents and spreadsheets on either PC or Axim. For all intents and purposes, I usually remove the CF/SD from my Axim and insert either/both cards into my PC's card reader. I do this very often when doing edits or massive file transfers or doing backup of the cards onto my desktop.
In this case of documents or spreadsheets, I prefer to work directly off the card. When I originate a document/spreadsheet from my Axim using TextMaker/PlanMaker, I save it as a Word/Excel 2003 file. I then remove the card from the Axim and stick it into my PC card reader. I then open, edit and save the document/spreadsheet directly to/from the card. When I'm finished, I remove the card from my PC card reader and stick it back into my Axim.
I never use the mobile device link as I find I need to copy the document from the Axim to the Desktop. Open and edit the desktop copy, then cut and paste the copy back to the card. Too much work and effort in this, if you ask me. I also find the transfer rate horrendous (maybe it's just me). I mainly use the CF as my main drive on the Axim and SD for all my multimedia stuff (videos, music, etc.).
The only time I leave the cards in my Axim is for syncing/installing software and wma-drm file transfers via WMP.
Well, I hope I got my thoughts out right this time...
Good Post ! And nice clarification. I'm assuming the part that you say the only time you leave the cards in your axim refers to the idea of file transfers not the everyday fun stuff!!!

Well, I leave the cards in my Axim only when syncing data or installing/uninstalling/reinstalling software onto it (as all the majority of my programs are actually on the CF card, not BIS) I also have to have the cards in my Axim if I want to transfer any copy protected music (WMA-DRMs) onto it. I can't do a sync with the PC card reader as WMP11 will always give me a sync error.
BUT, my 'everyday fun stuff' involves transferring 100+megs of data (videos, non-protected WMAs, pictures, documents, etc.) to/from the cards. I definitely do NOT want to use the mobile device link for this...

I use a 2 GB SD and a 1 GB CF.
:approve: you'll probably be interested in that 16 gb cf card from jandr and just pour it on to the axim, by way of card reader of course
