I hear about these things and I was wondering how you use them.
Can you use them off-line? Or do you have to connected via Wi-Fi like some RSS feeds?
Is there a good site with info on these?
Personally, I use Podnova to get the podcasts to my PC. Mostly tech stuff like TWIT, Security Now, etc. I also get video like Rocketboom, DLTV, Cranky Geeks, etc . I use Mobsync to get the stuff on my x51v, Mortplayer to listen to the audio casts, TCPMP to view the video. Once I set up the subscription via Podnova and the sync in Mobsync, it's seamless. I always have a selection of media to view/listen to on my Ax.

I take a similar approach to the above post but use Juice to download the podcasts (and manage them). Then Mobsync copies to my Axim to play whenever I want.
I tried a number of different setups, such as podcast RSS readers on the PDA, but these tended to be quite slow and took up a lot of time when sycing. In the end I found it better to use the PC podcast downloader as it can download any time (in fact I have Juice check for updates every 30mins) and Mobsync to sync every 45mins (or when cradled). In this way, PC can sit doing podcasts and when I plug in the PDA they transfer very quickly and I'm good to go :approve:

What 'natives' apps for the PDA exist out there that would allow me to download podcasts over ActiveSync (when craddled), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc? Instead of downloading to PC and then syncing over to PDA?

I've tried both but found the easiest way was to download to pc and transfer when docked (all this is automatic) And free :approve:

I use Juice Receiver on my PC (RSS) to download the podcasts. Then copy to my SD card. I use MortPlayer to play the podcasts while my X50v is docked in my car cradle. It is great for my 30 minute commute.
With NewsBreak all you need to do is add the podcast feed to the software. NewsBreak will do the rest. Optionally, you can tell it how many podcasts to download, when to download them, and how many to keep around. It's all automatic. NewsBreak then uses whichever default media player you've selected to play it.
There are a couple of ways to find podcasts. First, try googling for a topic you are interested in and include PodCast in the search criteria. You'll find a lot of great podcasts this way. You can also search around your favorite sites for the news feed or podcast symbols. Either way you'll reach a page with what looks like gibberish. The web address is what you want (from the address bar of your browser). You can put that into newsbreak when you create a new channel to add it.
EVER EASIER though is the second option. Try searching in NewsBreak (you can choose to Search when you make a new feed) for PodCast. Microsoft Live Search is GREAT at finding feeds and podcasts.
And keep in mind that a "podcast" (aka an enclosure) might be audio, video, an image, or just about anything else you can attach!

I would have to say that I like NewsBreak the best of the podcast apps that I've tried on my Axim x51v. I've tried Hubdog and FeederReader, but NewsBreak is the smoothest with a great UI and no problems.
When you go into play mode, it plays sequentially through podcasts from oldest to newest, or from whichever podcast you select to newer ones. I use this feature frequently while walking -- so I don't have to manually select each audio file to play it. I haven't seen that Newsbreak does this. My 30-minutes-into-it impression of Newsbreak is that they just added the podcast feature, and may get to the playlist type option later.
The AudioBay Podcast Player is now in version 2.5 (version 3.0 is in beta) - costs ony $9.99...but it isn't a newsreader. It does audio podcasts only. This is ideal for me, for reasons listed above, and because I am not as interested in the printed feeds.
