Microsoft Portrait - Problems

When I run it, I get this message: "Initialize portrait control failed". I press OK and next I this message appears: "Get camera information failed". When I press OK again, the program finally start.

And now, when I try to configure it, doing "Tools", "Options", I get this text: "Get camera information failed". If I press OK, i get this one "Can't retrieve camera info!". I press OK again, and the options didn't appear.

Can anyone help me? I have read this program is fantastic, but I don't know what happens.

My PDA is x51v, and the program supports WM5.

Thanks a lot.

what version are you using? did you try the beta v3?
It might not work with Axim x51.

I tried version 3.0.001 (26 January 2007). Did previous versions work on Axim x51v?

I don't know where the problem is, because that version supposed to work with WM5.

Thanks for the answer.

Can anyone with an Axim (I have x51v) try to install and execute that program?

You can get it from here:

And please, post your results.

I downloaded it and got the same errors as you.

But I think you might find that the point of this program is to send and receive video.
So, unless you have a camera connected to your Ax you will get a problem when it tries to find the camera. I may be wrong, but it seems logical.

The errors is not for the camera. Another user tried it in his "Mio P550" (with WM5 and without camera) and it worked perfectly.

If you don't have a camera, you can see the camera of another users, and use it with MSN Messenger.

I think Microsoft hates Dell, because I don't know why it doesn't work with the same OS :(

I tried the beta when it first came out, got the same error, thought it was because it was designed for phone/pda with built-in camera, so switched back to version 2.3 which has always worked fine for me. (Even on WM5)

2.3 link is just above the 3.0 link (says for WM2003 but works fine with WM5).

Also, as you said, the app isn't just for PPC and phones with builtin cameras. It supports some CF/SdIO. Even just the voice is a great free VOIP solution.

Good Luck.

I did install version 2.3 from MS webpage and it works on WM5. I can configure the program. Now i will try to use the camera.

By the way, I have my Axim in VGA resolution, so the program appears in the top-left corner of the screen. Can I do something to use it in fullscreen mode with VGA resolution? Version 3 run on VGA.

Thanks for all.

Doesn't look like 2.3 supports VGA modd (don't use it normally since keyboard is so small in this mode, but I could see the advantages with this app)

I always use VGA mode, with Resco Keyboard it's perfect. I will try de app in QVGA mode, and I hope next version works better in the Axim.

Thanks for all.
