Webis Money or SPB Finance question....seeking advice

Hi! First let me say I have searched the boards and a lot of what I found was over a year old so I wanted to look for some fresh current thoughts and feelings on these software options, or even others.

I am looking for some sort of expense tracker-and the ability to keep my checking up to date, etc is a bonus. I am not syncing with anything on my laptop, I used to Microsoft Money but I never used it and now that the pda companion doesn't work with WM05, I am not even thinking that direction.

I currently use an x51v. I have both Pocket Breeze (Which is currently on my today screen) and SPB Diary (Which I switch to on occasion when I get bored-I like having the option to bounce!) I also use Pocket Informant 2007 and ilauncher as my main today screen stuff (well PI2007 for my PIM but you get what I mean).

Anyway...I have downloaded the trials for both SPB Finance and Webis money and I am trying them both out but I would like to get some honest commentary or opininions on each of these software options, or suggestions for something better.
I like simple (and pretty doesn't hurt!). I also noticed that there is a significant price difference in the two (Webis Money is 9.95 and SPB Finance is 24.95) so if anyone can tell me if SPB is that much better, is it worth extra $$$???

any input appreciated!!! THanks!!!

I am a big fan of WebIs software, but I also run Spb Finance and Pocket Plus. I DO sync with ms money 2007 and Spb Finance makes that absolutely invisible. While I've never used WebIs Money, I can give a whole hearted recommendation for Spb Finance!

Thanks. Is there anything specific you really love about SPB other than the synicing ability? I ask b/c I wont be using the syncing features and its quite a price jump. I am planning to play around with them both some more myself this evening but I always turn to my fellow aximsiters for their wisdom:)

I have had Spb Finance installed, and removed it. I use pocket quicken. I guess because I use Quicken 2006 on my laptop and they seem to get a long better than Spb. :approve: Had problems with Spb syncing and not posting. So it sits as one of my registered but not used programs. I know, syncing isn't what you wanted to hear, but I am afraid all I use either program for is a checkbook. Nothing more, nothing less.

I do sync to Money and that's why I use CashOrganizer from Inesoft. It's sync engine is the best imho.

If you don't sync then I'd go for SPB Finance. I had problems trying to get it to sync my 13000+ transactions properly, but feature-wise it's great.

I also have WebIS Money, it's rather entry-level and I had problems with QIF import that WebIS was unable to resolve for over a year now. If you have to spend money anyway, why not spend $10 more and get a better software.

PS Just for expenses I'd use Excel. No money to pay, very flexible and no sync issues.

I like the today plug-in to see my balance, plus if you aren't going to sync, it has all the reports you need and it will do budgets for you. Just for an indication of how much I like it, I replaced Quicken 2007 with Money 2007 because it wouldn't sync with the Quicken.

Thanks for the input Amamba and oditius. I am playing with them now but haven't had too much time just yet. I dont mind the extra cost if its worth the difference in the two programs. I like idea of having one that I can keep handy so I dont have to carry my checkbook at all times just to check things.

does anyone know off the top of there head if it has an option to input bills and have the due date automatically show up in the PIM or tasks list?

The today plug-in....is that only with SPB Diary? or is it standalone or work with Pocket Breeze? I like that idea!

I use SPB Finance with SPB Diary. I don't have any desktop finance application - everything is on my x51v.

I love it cos it links with SPB Diary and shows my balance and upcoming transactions.
It has a boatload of options for budgeting, expense charting/reporting which is really useful even for my ad-hoc thoughts like how much I spent at Burger King last month :P

The backup/restore function is also tried and tested. Simple, fast and effective.

The fact that it remembers your transactions really help too. Like you can type in "Grocer" at the payee and it'll fill in the last transacted amount and the category which increases entry speed - I just have to change the amount. It's got auto-complete so I don't even have to type "GROCER" just "GR" to show it up on the list on select.

I waited till PocketGear had a 20% storewide sale before I bought it :) SPB also has a previous customer discount - check their website.

Thanks ReneG77....the more I read and hear it sounds like SPB Finance is good and worth the difference in price. I am glad they both have trials though so I can check them out and compare but it really helps to get actual current user opinions too!

It is a stand-alone today plugin. I haven't tried it with pocket breeze, but I do run it as a stand along. I don't see why it wouldn't work as one of pocket breeze's custom tabs.

I had the same dilemma: Webis money or SPB Finance. Tried both, and bought SPB. I've already using it for a while and very happy with everything. Backup/restore working without any problems. Webis backup didn't work for me. I did restore and half of data dissapeared. Also SPB Finance has better reporting. They are customizable and look very nice.

Thanks! That kind of feedback was what I was looking for-a real person point of view:)

I am still playing but it is looking more and more like SPB Finance....
