Pocket e-Sword has been updated.

From v3.0.0 to v3.0.1 - when I clicked to view the change-log it didn't work as that has not been updated yet which makes me think that Rick has forgot since the app update occured on the 17th and its now the 21st.

I will have to install this and then look to see if I can spot the changes if they are not too obvious. I have a question though before I proceed,

When updating pocket e-Sword do you have to uninstall the previous version first? This is not made clear on the website.

P.S. I just checked out the files contained in Program Files/Pocket e-Sword and it seems that if I uninstall v3 and then install v3.1 I would lose all my verse notes, so i'm still wondering how to proceed with the upgrade?

I emailed Rick and got a reply already.

"There is no need to uninstall Pocket e-Sword as the update will
automatically update as needed. Your notes will only disappear if you
manually delete them, or you perform a "hard reset"."

So I went ahead with the installation and everything is fine. There's a couple of pop-ups that appear on the ppc screen but they are normal and they don't delete all your notes/highlights etc.

I've been looking to see if I can notice the difference between v3.0.0 and v3.0.1 but I can't see anything obvious. There are now two binoculers with arrows on them for quick access to navigate through a search you have performed but maybe they were there anyway. Either way if they were there already then I wasn't using them before so they are new to me.

Has anyone here created any user-mods for pocket e-sword? I can find a ton of them for the desktop version but very few for pocket e-sword. I found a NIV and NKJV which was cool as these were never released officialy and people just made them themselves but I can't find anything else. I already have 25 bibles in the program so I was thinking maybe somebody out there had created some more commentaries and dictionaries?

as the niv is under copyright do you have an ethical problem using a stolen bible?

I read somewhere that the King James version is still technically under the UK's Crown Copyright, but yet is still in the public domain.

I suppose it could come down to ethics

does anyone remember the eleventh commandment, " I shall not breach copyright law "

The copyright is held by the International Bible Society and they have given exclusive rights to Zondervan. The only reason I wanted the NIV for Pocket e-sword is that that is the bible my friend uses and it's good if we are using the same translation when reading together.

I wouldn't say that I have stolen it in the full sense of that word since I haven't taken someone else's property with the intent to deprive the owner or the person with rightful possession of that property or its use. It would be the same if I went to a website where the NIV is available to read online and I made a print copy.

Having said that I am not in any way going to distibute the copy that I found nor am I encouraging anyone else to. If someone wants to make their own copy using the bible import tool then I wouldn't criticise them or think any the less of them for doing so wether it was the NIV or any other translation.

So I guess no-one knows of any other resources that are out of copyright and in the public domain for pocket e-sword? Maybe I should learn how to do this myself if no-one else is doing it. I would like to have the Calvin and Lightfoot commentaries on my pda so it may come down to me converting the desktop user-mods myself.

I went to Olive-tree route. I cost some $$ but I have a nice extensive Bible study package for my PPC. I still use E-sword on my Laptop :)

Between Pocket e-Sword and OliveTree e-Sword has a slightly better GUI - however I stuck with OliveTree simply because it is blazingly fast in comparison and there are a few bugs in eSword that cause minor problems with the SIP (Input Panel) when switching between eSword and Word. Pocket eSword is also a memory hog, unfortunately, in comparison.
