Icon14 FLV Plugin for TCMP! Finally!!

I saw this THIS earlier on http://solsie.com/ and when I pasted the plugins into the TCMP Player folder I was playing FLV videos on my X51v.:approve: They only work on WM5/WM6.

The SourceForge Project dowload page:

Quote:
This project is designed for Windows Mobile 5.0 and higher. It includes two parts:
1. A program to download YouTube movie by PPC.
2. A plugin of TCPMP to play .flv file directly on PPC (no conversion is needed).

Download here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939

I just noticed that in the SourceForge quote they said the plugin's are "designed" for WM5 or higher but maybe they would work for others I don't know.

I just installed it in my Axim 30x High End, and it works great, the video is just as good as .WMV format. However whenever converting formats from say AVI to FLV, or any other format, make sure that the "Data Bit Rate" stays below 706 kbit/s. That is the current bit rate I have on the file Im viewing and it plays smoothly. You might try other bit rates and see if it will play at higher rates and just post it. Also I didnt use the "EXE" install, I just copied the "plg" plugins into the TCPMP folder. It works great, YouTube here I come. :)

Thanks for this. I have been looking for a way to play these files for a long time.

The SourceForge page states that the plugins are compatible with WM2003 and WM5:

Quote: "It is designed for Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and higher. It has two parts: 1. A program to download YouTube movie by PPC. 2. A TCPMP plugin to play flv file directly on PPC (the plugin will never support CorePlayer)"

They have changed the wording because they must have made a mistake. If you look at the quote from the sourceforge page in my first post it doesn't mention 2003 and that was a copy and paste from the site. Good news for those using WM2003!:)

You have flv files running at 706Kb! I have nothing like that so I can't see how the performance would be different/equivelant to wmv. The only flv videos I have are one's from youtube etc (low bitrate). How much can file size be reduced by converting to flv, is it alot?

Thanks for the heads up.

Is anyone able to skip to the middle of a video and start watching without having the program freeze?

Update: The newer version does not freeze as the older version did.

That's someting that I hadn't tried until now and yes it did freeze. hopefully it's something that will be ironed out with a further release.

Is there anyway to get this to work with emmbeded flash like on youtube etc? It would be cool if when I clicked on a flash video on the web TCMP was launched and played it.

No - it needs to run in TCPMP, which means you have to either stream the file into TCPMP or run it off local storage. Given the plugin's description, and the included FLV downloader... I don't see streaming as being in the works at this time.

If you want streaming Flash video, Opera 8.65's your only choice at the moment.

Can someone tell me if this will allow watching video
directly from this site
http://www.tv-links.co.uk/
using this plug in. I don't have TCPMP installed yet but if this
plug works for this site I would install it.

thanks
Ken

It won't work for any of those kind of site's because they're all embedded flash. Someone mentioned that the Opera browser might be able to play embedded flash but I wouldn't know as I don't use. If it can then I would probably but it.
