Sync Trouble

I have been syncing my Axim with my laptop successfully since I established the partnership a few months ago. Just today when I went to sync it I got recognized as a Guest and it didn't sync. I could browse the device, but could not figure out how to get it to sync. I have no clue what to do.

I had this problem on my desktop awhile back. When I first bought the Axim I synced it with the desktop only and really didn't use the device until my Visor died. At that time I went to start using it and it would not sync and I could not figure out how to get it working with the desktop. That was when I gave up on the desktop and established a partnership with the laptop, which actually was a good idea because I hardly use the desktop.

What should I do?

I backed up the device as a guest. It was the first time I ever backed it up. Should I just do a hard reset and hope I can establish the partnership on the laptop and reinstall the backup?

I hardly have any actual data on the unit because I decided to start from scratch when I started using the device rather than try to move my data from the Visor backup. I have programs on it but they would be easy enough to reinstall.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Terri

Check out the 'Guest Issues' section of this web page. In particular, the reinstall/repair IE6 described in no. 4.

Do these "guest" issues assume that you are connecting as a guest deliberately? I never tried to connect as a guest. I simply tried to sync and found that I was a guest against my own will so to speak.

I am using Windows XP and there is something there about making changes to the registry which I can't imagine doing.

You're right it's not clear but I do believe they (especially the #4 IE issue) refers to non-purposeful guest connections.

Wow! I am really happy.

This worked...

If you connect as GUEST, then click the start button and select the “run” option and type “syncmgr /quit”. Then turn off your Pocket PC and turn it on again.

Amazing. Thanks for the link.
