PocketExcel
Just got my Ax on 7/5 and fooling around with the apps.
I downloaded an Excel workbook that I've been using to track my daily milage. It shows up (not much of it at one time) but I cannot seem to figure out how to enter data in it. I've tried the various methods but just seem to get ??? as the data in the cell.
How in the heck does one enter data on the Ax? I drive 100 to 150 miles a day to 3-5 different destinations and need to track for taxes.

Update: Nevermind, I switched to HandBase database and built a new database that works fine. Now all I have to do is get rid of Excel since is seems that it is not of much use.

Does PocketExcel have a print function? What do you use to print?

Hi Jack,
Thanks for getting back to e on this.
I don't seem to have the .pxl save-as option in my Office2K version of Excel.
I worked out how to export as a csv and import into HandBase.
This works for me for now. Would be nice if I didn't have to dance around to use the excel sheets. I've gotten fairly good with excel.
Oh Well........always learning something new. HandBase is pretty cool anyway.
Dana

Handbase is the "coolest" app. I started using it on a Handera TRGPro. Never hangs, ... The only thing I wish is that I find a search app that searches more than just the PIM stuff.
The old Palm based find app searched the Handbase databases too. That's where I used to put the 2000 item division phone directory that I used infrequently. For everyday use, I'd use a shortened list of a few hundred to speed things up. That setup worked very well.
Suggestions??

"I like when a plan comes together" Sounds like your xls system works well. PDAs do help help some of us work and not just play games all day like some PDA bystanders think.
Go get 'em

....I wish you hadn't said that....Now I'm gonna feel guiltyabout playing games on the long subway commute each day -- even though I am also very productive (with work) on my axim....
I'm so glad to hear that handbase works well on the axim...I'm going to purchase the crossover registration today---I always liked using it on my handspring visor.

Which input methods work with editing Excel (Or Word) files? I seem to have to use the keyboard. Using transcriber would be much easier!
Thanks.

Office Dcuments Excel / Word
I use Excel and Word documents daily that I share and transfer back and forth from PC to Ax. I store My Documents on a CF card "My Documents" folder I created from my Desktop. If you have no storage cards, use the "My Documents" folder in the main memory. The easiest way to transfer information and have it automatically change format is to either drop and drag or copy and past. Open Windows Explorer on Desktop and navigate to the Document / Worksheet you want to transfer. Open Active and make sure the "Toolbar" is selected in the "View" menu. Select "Explore" / "My PocketPC" (this is your PPC Explorer) and navigate to the folder you want to transfer your data to. Again, I suggest you use either the My Documents folder in Main Memory or a "MY Documents" folder you have created in storage card. The reasoning for this folder is that all your Excel documents and Word documents will be listed for selection when you open the App. If they are stored in any other folder or location, they do not show up when App is opened and have to be navigated to open them. I save some documents in other places so they are semi hidden from those who want to "Play" with my "Toy".
To steer back to the original issue, your files will automatically be converted to the proper format when transferred from PC to PPC and vice versa. At times it does not have the proper file type listed for conversion and I just cancel and re-drag / drop.
Hope this helps,
Mike
One last thing, I have some fairly large spreadsheets with several worksheet tabs. It's awesome to have the information at my fingertips. Extremely large files do take a bit longer to open though.
