Is it just me or is the Dell backup program useless??? I've tried 3 times to backup from a CF or SD card and it never restores the applications or data correctly, if at all. The first time I did a hard reset with the CF and SD still in the AXIM. Dell said that was my problem as the hard reset will mess up the data in the memory cards. Set up system again, backed up data to CF and SD card (double paranoid) and removed the cards before doing a hard reset. Now when I try to restore it restores up to the 80% mark and the restore stops. Does same on CF or SD on restore. All my contacts and appointments are gone. What is this bullcr@p. Is it that hard to include a backup utility that works? Am I doing something wrong? What 3rd party utility should I use to backup this thing reliably to a CF or SD card?
I think I am one of the lucky ones, but it has always worked for me. True, I have no custom categories, and my backup size in only 5 MB, but I have had no problems. I also backup to both CF and SD though just in case.

I also use Pocket Backup. I really like it. It is very easy to use :). Plus, the backup is stored in a self extracting file, in case you don't happen to be sitting near your PC when you need to restore. You can restore right from your backup.
I'm going to try the Pocket Backup program. So far my loss of data has been intentional doing the hard resets to either test the Dell backup application or to clear junk off my Axim, so I had most of the stuff I needed on my PC to reinstall on the Axim. I'd like to have something that I know will work and restore the Axim to exactly the way it was before it died. Therefore I'd like to keep a backup on a removable card so that if my Axim got dropped and the guts splilled out on the floor I could pop the card in a new unit and get right back to business. Sounds like the Pocket Backup program is just the ticket. I guess the only thing the Dell backup is good for is to restore basic data like the calendar and contacts info. Glad I found that out now before I really needed it!
I backup up regularly to my SD Card and have several programs installed on the SD card, as well. Once a week, I back up my SD card to my PC.
I've been able to hard reset, reinsert my SD card, run restore, soft reset, and the AXIM is precisely the way it was before the hard reset. Data, programs, menus, drivers, everything exactly the way I left it.
Using the Dell Backup? Try adding custom catergories to an item and see if they''re there. They won't be. I'm not sure what else it misses but the fact that it kills catergories is enough for me. I'm not keen to risk catergories AND other things that it feels I don't need.
