I've been using XCPUScalar on my Ax for 1 week now with absolutely no problems clocked at 472 (and a bus speed of 236 MHz). The Spb Benchmark index is now 1069, the CPU index is 1406, File System index is 1429 and the Graphics index is 471. These numbers are approx. 40% better than the Axim 2002 400 MHz PX250 numbers posted at the Spb Software website (apart from the graphics index which is up only 10%).
I tried Turbotray, but it didn't perform anywhere near this well on my PXA255 (I'm guessing because it didn't speed up the PXBus beyond 99MHz).
I run a ton of software on my system which I did not remove prior to running these benchmarks (including BatteryBar and JournalBar which consume a fair amount of resources) and I have not had one bit of trouble. So, in a nutshell, I really really really like XCPUScalar (because it works, doesn't crash my system, and the AutoScale function works well). Just my thoughts...

You will probably find that a link has been retained within your system - using file explorer , total commander or any file manager go to the 'startup' sub
directory of the 'windows' directory - if there is a .lnk file for xscaler present delete file and reboot - hopefully this should stop redundant message at startup

Any heat dissipation issues with overclocking the CPU on a PPC? I've not had the opportunity to do such a thing on a normal PC, but my folks who have tell me to be wary of the extra heat overclocking could generate.
Is it so minimal on an XScale processor that it makes no difference? Or is it something I should be cognizant of?

If a cpu at 400 mhz and 200 bus doesn't cause heat issues in the advanced then its not likely it will cause problems when overclocking the basic unit. As for overclocking to 472, hardware monitoring would be nice. I doubt gong to 476 would make a big difference, but you never know with out hard data.

The Xscale seems to be designed to run cool, The only heat I ever feel out of my axim is when the battery is charging.

Sorry ... Slighty off topic ...
Just wondering about the statement by Immier that the newer axims are shipping with 8ns memory ... is there any way of finding out how fast the memory is in my Ax? (8ns or 10ns)
Other than pulling it apart and deciphering the numbers off of the chips, that is?! :p

Easiest way to find out, is overclock your Axim to 472MHz, if you have 8ns or faster memory it will work, if not ... you got slower memory, most likely 10ns.
:)

I just installed XCPUScalar to my 400 MHz Ax and set it at 472. I am one of the fortunate ones who was able to sucessfully upgrade the ROM from AO4 to AO5. It is a totally different machine!
Please help with a couple of questions though anyone...
How to you set/check the bus speed?
How do you check the indexs? Is that another program?
Thanks for any help.

I have kind of the same question I am running a Axim Basic (300) at 472 on A05 and I was wondering if there was another util I could use to see if it is really running at that speed and what the bus speed is

Hi Bigmac110 and stsdroog
You can use a program called CPUID to check the CPU and BUS speeds and spbBenchmark for the index's. Both are free and are downloadable from the web. They both work really well, just do a google search for them.

Are you guys using XCPUScalar or XCPUScalar 400?
I've got an Axim Basic and was wondering wether it'd be safe to run XCPUScalar 400?
Slease, I notice you've got a basic. Which version are you running?

I'm having this problem too. Basically, my unit locked up at the higher (472) speed setting (must have the slower memory, I guess!).
Although, I'm confused because I thought the prog was suposed to sense the memory spec. and offer the appropriate speed setting.
So I uninstalled the program - and am getting the same error message. I also checked that there were no shortcuts in the windows/startup folder.
I would also like some advice as to how to eliminate this!
Also, does anyone know how to establish the speed of the memory on a specific Axim?

Immier, I tried the XCPUScaler program and my Axim (advanced) froze at the 472 setting.
So I guess I have the slower memory ........ or is that the trial version is v 2.52 and not the latest version for the Axim?
In other words, how can I trial the latest version?
