Mad Calendar Notifications Stopped Working

The reminders/notifications for meetings have stopped working. They do work in Outlook on my notebook. Also, reminders I've set for task in AgendaFusion also work. But there is no visual or audio reminder for the appointments.

I saw a thread on Dell's site saying that someone had fixed this problem editing the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\CALENDAR\REM INDER . But the reminder key doesn't exist on my machine (which may explain my problem!).

Can someone comfortable with the registry editor check their registry key and let me know what the Reminder key is? I'd like to manually add it and see if the problem goes away.

BTW, I"ve seen this issue discussed many times in other forums and have yet to see a specific fix listed for it. I've experienced it once before myself and eventually did a hard reset to fix it. But I really don't want to do that again if I can help it.

Thanks in advance!

Try removing the partnership and recreating it. If there is a conflict in an old reminder somewhere it may take care of the problem. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you shouldn't lose any data this way...

There are two keys in Reminder.

First is a binary key named DEFAULTS with a really long value....
00 00 0F 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0D 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 E0 80 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

The second is of type REG_SZ called WAVEFILE, value is Alarm1.wav

Thanks snathanb for the screen shots. That was really helpful. Unfortunately it didn't work. Here's what I did:

- I created the two keys you listed. (I couldn't paste into PHM so I had to rekey and goofed up the first time.)

- I noticed you have a few other keys under Reminder that I also don't have. So I assumed I had some major damage to my registry. I tried restoring just the registry using Pocket Backup, but as this problem happened a few days ago I don't have a backup that goes far enough back before it started.

So, looks like I'm going to have to do another hard reset. Really frustrating since I had just done a hard reset this weekend for an unrelated problem and all was working great for a day or so...

Mad

I tried adding the entries back to mine as well, but it still does not work. Guess it's time for yet another hard reset and rebuild. Third time now! Anyone have any ideas as to why the registry entries keep getting deleted?

I think my next PDA will be a Palm!

I have the same problem with my dell not reminding me, this is going to be the 4th hard reset. I did try the registry fix and I tried deleting partnerships with my desktops with no avail.

I wonder if because I sync with my home PC and work PC is causing it. Any one have their reminders stop working and they only sync with one PC only?

I also cleaned up my calendars on both of my PC's, cause I had a lot of duplicate entries and still the P.O.S. doesn't remind me.

I bought a PDA to make my life easier, but rebuilding my PDA every 2 weeks really blows.

Hey ottow, check out the info here.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...961#post142961

Looks like Ohayden is on to something. He thinks that a scheduled task is getting messed up and causing the problem.

Like you I am syncing mine to my home PC (XP) and work PC (W2K). I wonder if that combination could be causing the problem? I have a coworker here who also has the Axim and only syncs his at home and he has never had this problem.

Hmmm.....

Qwab,

My home is XP and work is W2K too. My reminders were working fine for the past month because I was on holiday and not syncing with my work PC. I returned to work this week and I'm almost certain that this problem started again after syncing with my W2K at work.

I don't know about you but I get a lot of dupilcate appointments when I have to sync between the 2 PC's.

Also my XP home PC is running Office XP. My work Win2K is running Office 2000. Work Active sync is version 3.5. I forget what version of Active sync I'm running at home is, but will check when I get home.

I wonder if this problem is related only to syncing with 2 computers or an incompatible version problem?

I think I may have found the culprit causing this nagging problem. I found that I had several duplicate recurring appointments in my calendar. These were birthdays for friends and relatives. Once I removed the duplicates the notification popup and sound started to work again! I'm not sure why I had duplicated appointments, maybe since I sync between my work PC (W2K) and home PC (XP Home Edition) something went haywire in the sync process. I will keep an eye on it and see if it happens again.

QWAB,

I still think there's something flaky with these Dells. I did try removing all duplicate reminders and did not solve my problem. However, I noticed my reminders for meetings from work (W2K Outlook 2K) would remind me, but no other reminders would work even if I made test reminders. I had no choice but to do hard reset, then my new reminders worked. However, reminders that were created from work (W2K Outlook 2K) stopped reminding me and old reoccurring reminders no longer worked either. For now I will only sync with my XP PC. I also installed ActiveSync 7.0. I think the duplicate appointments get created when a hard reset has been done and a new partnership gets created. During creating a new partnership: ActiveSync tells you, it found duplicates and would you like to combine the dupes or over write PDA with data from desktop or do nothing. It must be happening when I choose combine the dupe? It would be nice if there were a choice to over write desktop data from PDA data.

Any ideas anyone?

Well folks, I absolutely give up! I thought I had figured out the problem here but it has reared its ugly head yet again. This time there are no duplicate reminders to remove. I have no idea what the cause or the solution to this problem is. I have no idea if it’s a Microsoft or Dell problem. Microsoft refers me to Dell and all Dell says to do is hard reset and reload. Well, I’m sick and tired of doing this over and over! All I know is that my Dell Axim X5 is useless as a PDA and is going in the junk pile. I’m off to look for a new and different PDA. Any suggestions on what my new one should be?

Dear disgusted Axim user,
Ever since I stopped syncing with 2 PC's all my reminders work. However, old birthday reminders that originally were created in Contacts did not work. For them to remind, I had to edit all my contacts with birthday reminders, delete them and then recreate the birthday reminders.

I plan on syncing with 2 PC's. I will try to organize bussiness and personal Contacts, Calendar, Notes etc. At least both PC's won't get a chance to sync the same Outlook items. It would also be more professional to keep personel Outlook items off the company computer.

Give that a shot if you haven't done so.
