There are very few, if any, viruses that attack the PPC. Effective virus protection requires frequent updates and a considerable number of processor cycles. Why bother? You can always go back to your last backup, or in the worst case hard reset and reinstall your apps. It's probably a good idea to take all the old junk off once in a while anyway. And depending on how you use your PPC, the risk of having some virus send tons of emails to your contacts is probably minimal anyway.
Even with PCs using fixed IP addresses and alwya-on connections, many of the threats from viruses can be avoided by using some common sense with emails, patches, and surfing.
I would never consider running a PC without virus protection. But unless you use high risk behaviors with your PPC, there's not much reason for virus protection.
