Just order the Axim after much consideration of the Palm Tungsten. Am concerned regarding all the negative postings on CNET regarding customer service and user issues. What's your experience?

Didn't mean to jump you. I suggest you do some quick research and post your findings. List the pros and cons of each and ask other opinions.

You'll get much more response that way. I would have given my opinion, but I'm still waiting for my Ax :(

Good luck!

OK, to save you a bit of roaming-

I ordered mine, had it about 10 days later (sorry all of you who had a long wait!)

It's perfect, no problems, nothing not working. It does everything I hoped it would and then some. I took it to school the other day and had it out in my Active Directory class. As you might guess these are all adults in the tech field in this class and they were drooling over it. I can't imagine buying anything esle, especially not anything running PalmOS. That's great if mostly you need an address book. This thing is like carrying around a desktop that weighs a few ounces, it's amazing.

summing up- I love mine :)

I agree with Quinn, except it's a long way from a desktop. (After all, it does cost about 1/10 of a laptop.) And it's not quite Star Trek either. Some people have been able to use a PPC to replace laptops, but it depends on what you are doing. I think some times we get a little over-enthusiastic about how great the Ax is. Then other people who don't know what earlier PPCs were like get the wrong idea, their expectations are just above what any device could possibly do (today), and they get disapointed.

No matter what device you buy, the whole technology of pocket devices has grown trememdously ove the last few years.

Somebody else made the best PPC - Palm comarison. The Palm is a programmable database. the PPC is a general purpose computer. That's why the PPCs, such as the Axim, can do so much more than the Palm.(Sorry not to give you credit -- my memory is so bad! Feel free to jump in and take credit.)

Neither device can replace a laptop except in the most limited conditions.

The problem is that the Axim is so new, and the tech support staff hasn't been fully trained in how to handle problems yet. Most of the time if you have a problem with tech support, you can call again later and maybe get someone that's knowledgable in what to do with it.

As far Palm 5 versus Pocket PC 2002, there are far more apps out for PPCs that can leverage the power the processor. Palm 5 based handhelds (Tungsten T, etc.) are still lacking many multimedia programs, where as the PPC has dozens.

As far as Palm 4 versus PPC 2002, they're completely different. Palm 4 (Tungsten W, etc.) and earlier Palm OS versions are more souped up electronic organizers, though fully usefull in thier own right, they lack more advanced features like multimedia playback. They're very usefull tools, but can't play Doom during a break at work.
