I don't know why, I don't know what I did, but my Ax crashed a few minutes ago....all the way to the point where a soft reset only got me to the blue Dell screen (and no...I wasn't one of the one's messing around with the 2k3 upgrade :) ). After hearing about people raving and recommending Pocket Backup on the site, I downloaded the trial a few days ago. I ran a full backup of my Ax just to see how long it took--for grins and giggles. I was all grins when it wound up taking about 6 minutes. I backed it up to an executable on my SD card, and that was it.
Then tonight happened. It's currently 11:00 p.m. where I am. I can't leave home without my Ax (as it has taken over for that mass of grey stuff between my ears), and a rebuild usually takes me about 3 hours (load and reregister software to where I want it, sync, etc...) I figured it was now or never for the backup file.
I popped it in, went to file explorer, tapped the backup file, and 5 minutes later my Ax was in exactly the same state it was in 3 days ago when I ran that backup. The only thing I'm doing right now is reinstalling 2 new apps I bought tonight and syncing my data to get it current.
That is a beautiful thing.
Now, excuse me while I slow my pulse down and head on over to Handango. :D :D

Hehehe....anything that saves me 3 hours worth of work *and* delivers the peace of mind that a full recovery is only a couple of minutes away get a rating far above -alright- in my book. :)

Ummm, no. You didn't read my post. I said I *like the fact that it works when I need it to.* hehehehehehehehehhehe :) :)
Ugh...just bought it. They do the whole "the developer will email you your registration number in 2 days" thing with it. I wanted to run a backup tonight! :)

I most certainly do. At first, I wondered what could be so great about it. I mean, it's a backup app, right. From here on out, if you need to start pushing it again, feel free to call me in for backup. I'll stand over the person's shoulder wait for them to put their credit card number, all the while repeating "you'll thank me later, you'll thank me later, you'll thank me later, you'll thank me later...." :)

I guess I still don't quite get it... I've done the exact same thing with the built in backup literally dozens of times.
Once a week I run the built-in backup, having it place the backup file on my SD card. I pop my SD card into my reader and back it up to my PC.
I can hard-reset my Axim, plug in my SD card, run restore, and my Axim is in exactly the same state as it was before the reset. I've never had to reinstall anything, and the restore process takes about 90 seconds.
Even in the worst case scenario if I had to hard reset the Axim and the SD Card was corrupted, it would be as simple as copying the files back from my PC to the SD card, and then restoring. 2 minute operation.

Don't know what to tell you....PBU worked about 50 times faster for me than the built-in, it gets every single byte of data I've got, restores in a flash...these were all things that disappointed me the first couple of times I tried the built-in backup.
On another note....I'm glad you chimed in. I saw an article today on Fark.com that made me think of a member here but couldn't figure out who it was. Your Code Red avatar---is that because you like the drink or the story behind the Code Red virus?
I ask because I really hope it's not the drink. Yeah, I know....another one of those "anything you toss down your throat will kill you" type things....but this really is some nasty stuff.
an edit was just made to that page adding that it is all Mt. Dew products...not just Code Red. Ok---now I'm really upset...for a soda, Mt. Dew ranked in my top 3. :(

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to download the trial to get converted.
As for the Code Red... yeah, I drink it. Actually, I drink diet code red, but I couldn't find a decent graphic for it. I actually forgot I had the avatar, as I have avatars turned off (due to a certain person's avatar was driving me insane with his constant posting)
Interesting read on the BVO. I've noticed it in other drinks before, but never really paid much attention to it.
There so much stuff in there that is just as bad for you as the BVO, I really shouldn't drink any soda at all. But, as that's my worst vice, I could do worse.
Actually, I'm somewhat of a health/fitness nazi, so the one soda I drink every other day really is my worst vice. I don't drink alcohol or coffee, don't smoke, don't eat red meat, and I run at least 5 miles a day, at least 5 times per week.
Sounds like you've pretty much got things under control then. :) I've been toying with the idea of giving up soda for a while--I think that article may have been enough to push me over the edge. Like you, I don't really have many vices...but soda is a weak spot for me. I don't think it will be for much longer. BVO is just some really nasty stuff. Although, my mind keeps going back to the whole Coca-Cola chain email that was passed around a while ago about all of the nasty things you can do with Coke (de-corode a car battery, take the shell off an egg, etc...). Just another thing to keep an eye on.
Well, I've had a pretty eventful night around here and that leads to my one of my other vices....sacrificing sleep to take care of computer stuff. I think I'll see if I can curb that a little bit this evening.
G'night all....this Monkey's going to bed.

While we're talking about SBP, does anybody know if you can make backup sets? I would like a template that would only backup certain items without manually choosing them each time.
