How long have you been running Office 2000? Where you able to sync before?

This is the first time sync on this pc. I have done this on 18 other pc's without this error. I originally configured all the PDA's from my workstation and then am having my users sync with there local pc's at different sites.

They were haveing some trouble this week with office so I had them reinstall it and downloaded the SP's.

The only difference with this pc and others running 98 with pda's is that there are 2 profiles for outlook. maybe there is a confusion with that?

Thanks for any input

Having multiple profiles should not be a problem as long as the profile is configured properly for the person that is logged in.

I have done a quick lookup and it seems that your mapi32.dll may be wrong or corrupted. This file is located in your Windows\System folder. This file is updated when either you upgrade Office or add a Service Pack. Sometimes, this file is not updated properly. Here is the fix:

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem:

In Outlook, click Detect and Repair on the Help menu, and then click Start.

Disconnect the Windows CE-based device from the computer, and then quit Outlook. Test to determine if the problem is resolved, and if not, continue to the next steps.

Click Start, point to Find and then click Files or Folders.

In the Named box, type mapi32.dll, click My Computer in the Look In box, and then click Find Now.

Right-click the Mapi32.dll file, click Rename, type mapi32.old, and then press ENTER to accept the name change. Note that if there are multiple copies of the Mapi32.dll file in the list, rename each file to a unique name.

Quit the Find tool, and then start Outlook.

When Outlook starts and you receive a prompt that files are missing, click Yes to permit the Windows Installer to replace them.
Reconnect the Windows CE device to the desktop computer and attempt to synchronize.

Thanks, but it didn't help. I might just have to upgrade them to windows 2000 and Office xp just to avoid wasting time but if you have any other ideas please let me know.

thanks again
