Backup software ?

I hear a lot of peopl talking about their the backup software they are using.
I never read about anyone using ActiveSunc to do backups. Is there something I'm missing,
Do those backup software give you more ?
Doesn't the ActiveSunc backup work ?

I use ActiveSync back up all the time, and it has worked everytime for me (touch wood). However, it may be a problem when there are too many changes (i.e., upgrading from PPC 2002 to WM2003). As well, I think many people on this site prefer Pocket Backup because it can be quicker, more reliable and also has the feature of self-extracting files that you can use anywhere to do your restore.

See two reviews of Pocket Backup Plus here.

Personally, I think it's the most important software I own.

I had problems with AS backups failing to restore. Plus it took FOREVER! I use Pocket Backup Plus and just love it. I can backup to wherever I want (PC, SD card, etc). The backup is stored as a self extracting file so if I happen to need to do a restore, I can do it right from my device... if you have the backup stored on an SD or CF card, at least. It's just a neat little piece of software.

I too use Pocket Backup Plus and LOVE it. It is a must have piece of software. I do weekly backups to my PC and to my SD card. it works like a charm..

Only problem I am running into are the automatic backups. Can't seem to get it to work for me. Each time it attempts to run it tells me that there isn't enough room to do the backup. I fear that it is trying to backup to the onboard memory, which I do not want t to do.... Any help?

Here is a link. It is $29.95.

I also feel it is the most important software I have. I used the Active Sync backup for awhile. It just took sooooo long to run. Then I went to FL for two weeks and realized that I was not going to be near a computer. What if my Pocket PC performed a hard reset? :crooked: So I looked at my options and went with Pocket Backup Plus. It allows you to choose a self extracting backup file, making it like an installation program. That way if there is a hard reset, you just run the self extracting file, and everything is back to normal

Add me to the list of folks who've become Popcket Backup Plus converts. The most important feature for me is the daily automatic backup, followed by the compression and self extracting .exe options. I'm constantly adding and changing email, notes and such. without daily backups, it's a real pain for me to rebuild.

I have mine set to daily perform an auto backup to the built in storage at 0400, then do a soft reset. I have a fresh backup and cleared memory at the start of every day.

You are quite welcome, kirky.

Mike, can you compress the self extracting back ups? I have been a little hesitant to try. :D

I have mine running compressed and encrypted and they both work with no problem. Actually the compression cuts the filesize down by 30% or more!

It's Pocket Backup Pro for me. ActiveSync will not backup a card, PBP will. AS cannot be scheduled, PBP can. AS backups up what it can into one file that can only be restored as one file. PBP backups into one file from which you can restore individual files or the whole backup. Great application. Don't drive your Ax without it!

Not to add fuel to the fire, but Pocket Backup Plus is the ONLY way to go....I recently had Dell replace my Axim for a scratch on the screen...I downloaded the trial of PB Plus and backed up my old Ax to my PC....then go the new ax...set it up, transfered to backup file to it, ran the self extracting restore file and BOOM...100% back to normal....the only thing I had to change was the system time and thats stored in the battery, not the memory. I bought the program soon after. Also, if you get the Plus version you get two addition programs called Space Detective which is VERY helpful to me in finding large files on my Ax or on inserted memory cards. You also get PocketMon, which is a program very similar to BatteryPack but in my opinion a much better built app. Just my 2cents...

Just purchased Pocket Backup Plus at Handango.com Tuesday, 8/19. Real nice! Easy and quick to back up to SD card. Keeps failing on attempts to back up to PC though.

Also, it would be even better if they would send me the registration key. Handango says Sprite Software sends it in one day, and to write them if not received within two days. No response from them at all. Five days left on the evaluation version they sold me.
