Need a backup utility

Is there a backup program that backups everything (games, apps, start menu shortcuts, etc.) so i can later restore it?

the reason i ask is because im planning to upgrade to A17 AKU 3.5.2, and as far as i know, a OS upgrade erases everything.

this would not be a problem per say, if i had a few programs, but i have over 40 games & 50 applications.

Most backup files can not be restored to a newly ROM upgraded device, but Sprite states that its backup application can be used for this purpose. I have not read any threads from users that tried it, so I can not confirm that it works.

I use spb backup, but I have no idea if it would work the way you want it too. Would it be that bad to reinstall? Every 8 - 12 months, I usually have to reinstall all of my 60 + apps, just to clean things up.

Sprite had a utility that I think still works but what it does is takes a snapshot before you do your upgrade then compares files after the upgrade and only restores those that were not part of the upgrade. I used it a couple of times accross ROM's and it seemed to work fine. The only issue is that if it missed something and restored an old file you might not figure it out right away but eventually you would find something that didn't work the way it should and that could be the problem. that never happened to me but i did hear of it by at least one person. worth a try though. the trick is that you have to do the first part BEFORE you do the upgrade or it won't work.

i tried sprite & it works great, after the hard reset i was able to restore all my data back in about 8 minutes. the only disadvantage was a few programs "forgot" their registration code. nothing major though.

I'm going to be creating a new Mobilitysite Member Discount thread a bit later today. One of the new vendors that has agreed to a Member Discount is SpriteSoftware.

I'll update this thread when I decide the most appropriate location for it!
