The Contacts program would run no matter how we tried to start it. It took a hardreset to restore it to usable status. A number of Axim users reported this problem on the Dell Community forum. On the Dell Community forum another user said that to avoid the problem in the future, to never Exit the current program from the switcher while Contacts had an edit screen open.

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything more about this situation. Is there a general problem with using Switcher to Exit all programs or Exit current program?

No PPC applications were written with switcher in mind. It seems to me it would be better to exit the application, then close it with switcher. This would give the OS the opportunity to close any open resources. That's what I always do (although I use gigibar, not switcher). I have never had this problem.

Also, there's no reason to close every ap every time. If you use an ap a lot, why not leave it run in the background? Yes, PPCs slow down if too many aps are running, but a few doesn't seem to slow things down any.

I also had a problem with Contacts - I could not get it to launch. I did a soft reset and that fixed the problem for me, at least for now. This is the first glitch I have had with the Axim with just over one month of use.

Thanks Oh Bob

I was looking through this site to find help on the exact problem you described. Earlier today, I began having trouble with Contacts...it just wouldn't launch. I did a soft reset and it works now!

Thanks a bunch!

When in doubt - just REBOOT

Its Windows dude.... Anytime a Micro$oft ANYTHING hangs... [CTRL} {ALT} {DELETE} or in this case... a soft reset! <LOL>

Think of switcher bar as the equivalent of turning off your PC without first shutting down the operating system. Blunt, brute force stop. So, you pay the price later on the PC with the resetting when you fire it up again. On the PPC, the price you pay is that the app won't start again until you soft reset (as d_harrision pointed out, the three-finger-salute).

Moral of the story: Don't use switcher bar to shut down stuff, close it properly or leave it running.
