Another GREAT way to play YouTube, Google Video & Veoh Videos for both WM platforms!!

It was just a few days ago that I’ve reported on the latest developments of playing back YouTube (and similar) videos on both Windows Mobile platforms.

Developing for Windows Mobile is so blazingly fast that immediately after publishing my article, a brand new and even better solution has been released, which doesn’t require any manual intervention to search and play videos any more.

There is an excellent tutorial, along with the two CAB files you need, HERE (related thread HERE). Please follow this tutorial on setting up the new player. Note that, in order to play back videos on a touchscreen-less MS Smartphone (Windows Mobile Standard) platform, you’ll need THIS TCPMP CAB file (instead of the one linked in the tutorial) – while the other CAB file, FlashVideoBundle.CAB, can be installed on Smartphones as well.

After installing, just go to, say, YouTube and click any video on, say, the main homepage. The video playback will (almost) immediately start, after switching to TCPMP.

Compared to the MobyTube-based solution explained in my previous tutorial,

The pros:
  1. when you click a link in the REAL YouTube (and the other video repositories), you will be taken straight to TCPMP playing back the clip. No MobyTube searching / copy-pasting is necessary!
  2. Smartphone compliance!
The cons:
  1. not compatible with alternative browsers like Opera Mobile or NetFront; with them, stick to the MobyTube solution explained in my previous tutorial. Note that it’s compatible with all PIE plug-ins (tested with PIEPlus and MultiIE; the latter on both (Pocket PC’s and Smartphones) platforms)
  2. no pre-WM5 compliance

All in all, GO GET IT! You’ll LOVE it!

Wonderful, will we be presented with the option to Save the file or Play the file like when you open a video on MobyTube for TCPMP? I have saved many videos that way, on my CF card and then they immediately opened and played on TCPMP.

Thanks

This is probably the best way. And it works with mobetube which I use a lot.

Thanks for pointing this out, I probably wouldn't have found it otherwise. It's basically perfect youtube on my axim now over wifi. The youtube vids really show up nicely on the axim screen.

I KNEW there was a reason I got wm5 for my x50v!

I can't seem to get this working...

When I click on a video it says: Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player.

I am running windows mobile 5, Internet explorer. I have TCPMP installed along witht the other file. They are in \CF Card\Program Files\TCPMP\

Any advice?

Thanks, Chad

go to the tcpmp folder and there should be a program called enableVL,open that. you might want to install everything to the main memory if that doesn't work.

Quick warning: IEM plugin-based YouTube tools currently don't work!

I've just been reported YouTube has changed the HTML layout; hence, the well-known IEM plug-in to play back YouTube automatically from IEM doesn't work for the time being. I'll announce at once when there's a newer, compatible version.

For the time being, you can still use the tutorial HERE, as it doesn't depend on a plug-in and, therefore, still works.

Menneisyys--This still works. This tip is from our friends on the dark side:

Follow this new tutorial to download TCPMP 72RC1 and FlashBundle plugin. Launch Pocket Internet Explorer and go here: YouTube Pocket

Tap on any video. Bypass "Unsafe Command Msg" and TCPMP should launch.
Wola, your YouTube addiction has been fixed...at least for now til YouTube change their format.

Associate files to TCPMP. Options > Settings > Select Page > File Association...Flash Video, HTTP, MMS, ASX, M3U, etc.

As was reported some days ago, YouTube has changed the layout of their pages, resulting in the best IEM plug-in not working.

Now the author of the plug-in has just released a new (1.2) version, which fixes this problem. See his original post for the download.

BTW, there is also an interesting post on playing back YouTube videos via YouTube Pocket HERE.
