Yahoo! Go 1.x Being Discontinued Effective August 27, 2007

Didn't find any news about this with a quick search, so I thought I'd post it here. I got this notification in an email from Yahoo Mobile.

Quote:
Dear Yahoo! Go 1.X customer,

We just wanted to send you a friendly reminder that Yahoo! Go 1.X
will be discontinued tomorrow, August 27, 2007, at 11:59 p.m. GMT.

If you haven't already done so, we recommend upgrading to
Yahoo! Go 2.0 (recently rated "Excellent" by CNET), our most
advanced and powerful experience for the mobile phone.

To upgrade to Yahoo! Go 2.0, visit Yahoo! Go. The Internet to go.
on your PC or enter Y! Go into your phone's
web browser.

If your phone doesn't support Yahoo! Go 2.0, you can still access
the same services you had in Yahoo! Go 1.X by using your phone's
web browser -- just go to Yahoo! Front Page.

We're sorry for the inconvenience but think you'll love the new
Yahoo! Go 2.0. If you have any questions about this transition or
were an active user of Yahoo! Messenger within Yahoo! Go 1.X,
please read the Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I do if I have Yahoo! Go 1.x? - Yahoo! Go

Thanks for remaining a loyal Yahoo! customer.

Sincerely,

The Yahoo! Go team

That news has been expected. My Yahoo Go 1.0 stoped to work even some time ago.
Unfortantly Yahoo still restricts to download Yahoo Go 2.0 to any device that is not in their list. (Axim for example) So I even had to create my self program to synchronize yahoo calendar with Axim.

WHy the hell do they limit the app to certain WM phones?

If you just make a QVGA & a VGA .cab then it'd be fine. Uhh I never really did like Yahoo anyway..

Is there any non-Yahoo Go method to keep contacts in sync between Yahoo Mail and WM5 or WinXP? I use Yahoo Go to keep my contacts synchronized between my PPC/PC and Yahoo. Since the new version of Intellisync for PCs has been "coming soon" for months, I'm sunk unless I can get some way to keep my contacts in sync. I really don't want to switch to Gmail, but Yahoo's certainly doing their best to make me...

If you're using the old (non-beta) interface, there should be an option to import or export contacts in an Outlook .csv file. Go to:
Addresses -> Import/Export (top right hand corner)
You can also handle different formats such as that which Thunderbird uses, but syncing solutions for WM and Thunderbird seem to be either shareware or iffy freeware.

Ooh, alternatively, you can also go to:
Addresses -> Sync
Apparently there's a separate program, Yahoo! Autosync, that deals with the address book (contacts) and calendar.
Quote:
It's the only FREE service that keeps your address book and calendar in sync between your favorite email applications. With Yahoo! Autosync you can:

* Back up critical email addresses and contacts from your desktop computer to Yahoo! for safe keeping.
* Access your work calendar from home or on the road.
* Save time - make a change once and Yahoo! Autosync makes the update everywhere!
* The new Autosync functionality ensures that your data is constantly in sync.
You still need Outlook though for the data to get to your Axim, but it's still handy (and free still) nonetheless. Unfortunately, Yahoo's not that nice with their email, so I might investigate using something like YPops! to save email to my desktop, then sync email over to my PPC.
