How to uninstall free app mVNC?

Hi all,

I've been looking for a good VNC app to use over both WiFi and Bluetooth to let me control my presentations (school music teacher) over VNC from my AXIM x51v WM5 a12 rom, to my laptop and projector.

One installed itself in a way that I can't uninstall.

mVNC 2.14 (micro-VNC for WM5(SSH1) 2.14 by Hitachi-system.co.jp

Please, I'd like some help to uninstall this software from my PDA. It doesn't appear in 'remove programs' and even after deleting the folders it still remains in programs.

It works, I just need it out of the machine.

If it requires some registry editing to remove, all help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

bye,
Shuei.

Manually deleting applications can be quite tricky.....You could try this:

Get the really great Pocket PC utility, SKTOOLs. SKTOOLS includes an "Installed Programs" option that allows you to view all of the different components of installed software (it does not show registry items). Reviewing the application using this option would at least show all the files that you'd need to delete. Since you've already tried to delete the software, I'm not sure that SKTOOLs will display the software. You may need to reinstall the software before you could try using SKTOOLs to delete it. Once you've deleted all the software files, then you could use SKTOOLs "Invalid Registry Entries" option to try delete related registry entries. You can get SKTOOLS here.

Before messing around with any of this, it's always a good idea to backup your pocket pc.

And, of course if all else fails, you could always perform a full reset of your pocket pc to restore it to its factory settings.....

1. welcome to AximSite :)

2. I don't recommend this app. use Pocket Office instead - see my review at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...pocket-pc.html . Or, for that matter, use a remote presentation controller - I've elaborated on them at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...e-roundup.html

Thank you, Julie and Menneisyys, for your detailed assistance and quick responces.

I'm downloading SK Tools as I reply. I have a version of MemMaid that I used, trying a similar dll search to find other bits that needed to be removed. It's a long list in about 3 threads. I do hope the dead/invalid registry entries tool picks up the rest. I was a bit affraid that backing up my PDA would also back up the problem. Thankfully the prg is dormant in its pre install/first run state and easily removed from its folder. The installed files look for this folder in order to run, so the app doesn't function without it. It is a 'pain' that it leaves so many useless remnants and doesn't conform to a more standardised uninstall. I hope the developers appreciate this issue. I sent them a message.

I have been dabbling with VNC viewer and PTvncWM5 as well as mVNC. All with their issues. The comprehensive roundup has given me new hope that a solution to my requirements will eventuate. Thanks for conducting such a comprehensive comparison.

I am so very greatfull that there is such a strong and supportive user network for the AXIM. It will survive for many functional years as it is such a powerful macine and capable of accomodating so much of the newest apps being developed for the WM5 OS.

I'll post the results after I try the manual removal.

bye,
Shuei.

Hello once again,

The manual uninstall was helped greatly by the use of memmaid, which is similar to SKTOOLs in some respects. Thanks Julie, for the rundown on what to search for.

I made a direct contact with the administrator of mVNC, Noriaki Yamazaki
Administrator of micro-VNC Research & Developement center
Hitachi Systems & Services, Ltd. (via the download page and the contacts link). He was kind enough to double check that every thing that was identified as part of the installation was indeed just that. A very helpfull and considerate gentleman indeed.

Noriaki Yamazaki has also recently amended the installation package for the software to include english language files. I originally could not use the installer, as I am unable to read anything other than english, this is where the problem first arose, as I used the .exe directly on the AXIM and had little chance of directing the install.

It is much safer to give it a try now as a result of this modification, as it can be uninstalled via active sync etc.

That said, the round up of VNC apps mentioned above is superb. I'm still making my own tests using the suggested packages. Thanks Menneisyys.

The next project is adding musical dictionaries, GRIFF, and stand alone flash and quicktime style apps to my AXIM.

Thanks again for your help. I'm off to the search menu.

bye,
Shuei.
