another corrupt excel file

This is the third excel file that has failed to open. The message I get is "An error occurred while opening 'Mileage Log.xls"

The other files where not very important, but this one I don't want to lose. Has anyone else had this problem? All the other excel files open fine. And is there a way to fix it. I would hate to lose all this data. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an X51v running WM5.

Nope, when I try to transfer the file it gives me an error that says end of file has
been reached. If I could just get the corrupted file to transfer then I could try some excel file fixer program, but I can't even get that far.

Where is the file; is it in the main memory or on a card? If it is on a card, perhaps a card reader might do the trick (to open on your pc). If not, open Explorer on the pda and try to copy the file to a new location and see if you can open it that way.

On edit: may be worth trying a soft reset to see if it is Excel rather than the file.

You should not have to transfer the file (through an ActiveSync connection?) to read it on your computer. Can you copy it to an SD card, then use a USB card reader to copy it to your computer.

Even if the file is in a pocket version, Excel on my computer can open these files so, technically, they do not have to converted through ActiveSync.

The file is on my SD card. I put it in my card reader and tried using a couple shareware programs to recover the file and both failed. hmmmm......

Were the other failed files on your SD Card? This may be a card problem rather than an Excel issue.
