Anyone know how this compares to Opera Mobile? I switched this past summer, as Opera seemed to load pages much faster.

I can't put my finger on it yet but the rendering engine has been adjusted somehow. Build 009 would load gardenweb forum pages very slowly and mail.yahoo.com buttons would be rendered on top of one another if you have text size set to largest. That is no longer the case with build 102.:approve:

Nowhere near as fast as Opera. Who dreamed up the virtual bookmarks page (at least you can turn them off)? One real pain is on some pages the PPC keyboard covers the bottom scroll bar (Mobilitysite is one of them) and if you want to go left/right you have to close the keyboard. On the good side you have access to all of your bookmarks instead of the usual 10.

I agree that it isn't as fast as Opera.
On some pages it does a much better render of the page than Opera 8.65.
I think I will be using it much more than Opera on those pages, slow or not.

Read the Web Browser Bible ( http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...ing-bible.html ) for a thorough comparison.

Currently, I consider Opera Mini 4 ( http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...-give-try.html) the best / most useful browser for Windows Mobile - as long as you don't (frequently) need Flash / Java applets / file upload / copy/paste.

Netfront 3.4 has two features going for it that Opera Mobile 8.65 doesn't have yet:

1) Save Link As/Save Target As - Opera offers 'save image' as you've pointed out in the past... and that's a drawback for me, since sometimes I don't WANT to load the text file linked to off a web page, but just want to save it straight to the flash card or onboard storage.

2) Handling of MHT files and better overall 'browsing on card' options; it can handle saved pages, TXT files, and the like better than Opera can because it actually has a 'browse' dialogue, unlike PIE or Opera 8.65.. and I miss this in a browser, having gotten used to such with Netfront 3.4.

It is overall faster than Netfront 3.3 is, and it's good with Asian-language pages that Opera Mobile tends to goof the fonts up on (well, given Access Software is a Japanese company, this is almost a given)... but the lack of upgrade discounts really does make this 'less valuable' in the long run, especially since it handles pages oddly at times (Smart Fit's moving around page elements can really screw up table displays, and Just-fit compresses everything in a way that doesn't work as well as Opera 8.65 page scaling).

I wonder if this will be true when the full 3.4 is available. I remember the 3.3 beta being faster than 3.2 until they released the full version and then it wasn't any faster.

I don't see "save link as or save target as" when I'm using 3.4. If I am on a web page and tap & hold the stylus I get a pop-up menu with "save image" and "save link target" but I am unable to use them because they're always grayed out. Am I missing something?

You have to tap and hold on an image or url for this option to be available also you must disable "scroll mode" which is equivalent to opera's "grab & scroll".

Thanks, I thought the save was related to the entire page and that's what I hoping to be able to do.

Actually you can save an entire webpage. Netfront uses an unusual naming convention; instead of using: "save as" or something like it they chose "page memo". To save a webpage go to menu>file>page memo>menu>add page memo. Or you could click operation>bookmark>menu>page memo>add page memo.

Yeah I know it's a pain. :(

Thanks for the information, I agree it's a pain but it works. Interesting, it must format the page for Netfront only because if I open it with either Opera or PIE it's very distorted.

Yes that is a curiosity since the desktop versions of both Opera and IE handle it fine.

I thought the problem is that Page Memo uses the MHT format, which only desktop IE or Opera uses? At least, I only find my MHT files (saved via IE, since Firefox doesn't support it without an add-on I've yet to find) via Page Memo in Netfront.
