Question Help - hyperlink codes on WM ?

Hi all,

I need some help.

On PC, I can use hyperlinks to set links from a note (e.g. a Word document, a ListPro outline note etc.) to any file or directory on PC.

E.g.

file:// creates a link to the file, file:/// creates a link to a directory (opens in File Explorer), likewise I can create links to Outlook items and Lotus Notes items. This is great for keeping track of project-related documentation and meeting notes, emails etc, and launching them from my project database (currently contemplating using ListPro for this) with a single click.

So, if I set up a link like this:

<file:///c:\Program files>

And click on in in any program that supports hyperlinks, it would start File Explorer with C:\Program Files opened.

However, this doesn't seem to work on PDA. Whatever link I set up is treated as an URL address of a web site, and launches PIE. If I set an HTML link to a directory, it tells me that this network resource is unavailable. If I set a link to a file, it always launches PIE first with file link filled into address field (and then PIE may launch the file in its associated application, esp. if it's a MSOffice file).

So, am I doing something wrong ? Does WM5 / 6 use a different set of codes ? Can I set up a hyperlink in any application that supports them, that would open a file or a directory on a WM device without attempting to launch it via PIE ? (And yes, I am aware that ListPro has dedicated link columns, but I don't like them and much rather would use a hyperlink inside notes field).

Any help will be greatly appreciated !

Thanks, but this would open an html in PIE, wouldn't it ?

What I was trying to do is to set up a hyperlink to a, say, excel file on SD card, and have it open in PExcel.

Listpro has link field types that can be used to link to websites but can also be used to link to any file on your pocket pc (even those on storage cards). I think Listpro can only find the files if they are in a My Documents folder so you'd need to create a My Documents folder on each of your storage cards.

You'll need to be careful that you don't create "deep" folder hierarchies off the My Documents folder. What I mean is that if you have a file that is stored in a folder off the My Documents folder, say 4 folders deep, Listpro may not find the file. Listpro may be limited to only 2 or 3 folders deep (this is the case with other applications). I've tested this out and can confirm that Listpro can find files on the CF card in my Pocket PC that are two folders deep: \CF\My Documents\Juliefolder\file

Actually, you can set links to files many levels deep, I just was doing it wrong.

I explained how to do it here

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...ps-tricks.html

Basically, it's \path\filename, with nothing in front.

I just tested this link

\SD Card\Documents\Backup\Skins\Training.bmp

And it works fine, even though it's 4 levels deep.

(This is link in Notes field, I don't know if there are any limitations on links in special Linked field, I don't use it).

Thanks for the clarification. I've used the links field in Listpro for some time now and only used the linked items in the notes field on a few occasions. I like the link option in the notes field better, but I'll need to go through the fields in all my listpro files and set it up and I haven't had time to do it.

I thought Listpro might give you what you were looking for so that's why I pointed it out to you.
