Software for large MP3 list playback?

Is there something like WinAmp for my Axim x51v? I want to use it as MP3 player, but TCPMP does NOT turn off the screen completely during playback and more battery is drained due to that. I have 1000s of MP3s (now on a 32Gb CF) and I need something that can easily sort through them (through folders).

Any ideas? For example, I would want that software to randomly pick a file (shuffle) in a single folder or subfolder (depending on settings) or just in a category on a playlist (that I can create).

Use PocketMusic, a winamp clone by PocketMind software, here is their URL: PocketMusic - Freeware MP3 Player for Pocket PC

It can handle my 63-item playlists rather easily... it should work for you.

Thanks, but even this one will stop playing when you turn the screen off (to save battery power).

I use GSPlayer , for mp3 and other audio codecs. It lets you set the time for the screen to turn off.

TCPMP for videos
GSPlayer for audio

These work for me.

Guys, you can configure ALL media players to shut off the screen on a button press... TCPMP too.

How? When the screen shuts off, the playback stops... I want the screen off (to conserve battery power) and the playback working at the same time.

Does TCPMP support PlayList sorting? I have 5 music folders (rap, rock, house, etc) and I don't want to see them all at once, but easily navigate through those folders. I would like it to be like a tree where I see 5 categories, select one and see the contents of just that one category. Maybe if I use different playlists...

Do you want the screen totally off or just unlit?

The power button can be set to turn the backlight off when held down. This allows you to use any player without having the power drain of the backlight while still allowing you to access the player if you want.

For example I often put my Ax in my top pocket with the screen turned off, using Tcpmp I can just tap my pocket to pause playback and then tap it agin to resume.

I want it completely off because I accidentally can touch the screen (if its not off completely) and it pauses playback and its just a hassle.

Within TCPMP:

Tap Options > Settings > Select Page > Hot Keys
Scroll down to almost the end of the list, you'll see "Screen on/off"
Tap Assign and press the button you will use to turn the screen off and on
Tap OK

Or you can install Psshutxp which will let you assign one of buttons on the axim to turn only the screen off, audio will still play.

Yes, the TCPMP hotkey, as Julie mentioned, works well. Even better, if you change something by pressing another hot key, the screen will turn on, so you can see what you changed, etc, and will turn off automatically again.

Sweet! Thanks!

Now all I need is to find a way to organize PlayLists for hudnreds of songs, get a 32Gb flash card, and my Axim will be better than ANY iPod!

PDAs are underrated. If you could make Axim your phone and have built-in GPS then it would be the best device ever made.

Dang it... TCPMP doesn't do song sorting by directory.

How can I make it see new songs in a folder without manually adding them to a playlist?
