Need: Just write on screen as a note, save

All,
Using my Axim x51v and supplied note-taking I seem not to be able to just scribble lines or characters without the Axim trying to secon-guess me and complete lines or do character recognition. Is there a super-simple bitmap saver?

A great enhancement would be a simple data field for later sorting/finding.

I am an elementary teacher and if I am going to use the Axim to capture issues and thoughts in a real classroom setting even this processor doesn't move fast enough for the patience level of a kid who has asked something (which requires a note to be written and saved to be sure it will get done.) The classroom can get out of hand during those lost moments.

I am experimenting with DayNotz, too. DayNotz takes some seconds to show up when assigned to a button. Good sync and data manip on PC, though.

So paper still looks good in this situation.

Any suggestions?

Jonathan

I use the built in "Notes" of my x51v and have it set to writing as the default mode. I still have the hardware button #5 set to record (the default). This way when I press the button, it opens up notes and all I have to do is tap new in the lower left and start hand writing a note. I have the default setting for new notes set to draw. As long as recognize isn't turned on, it doesn't try to figure out what I have written. When I'm done with the note, I just tap OK and it's automatically saved. Of course the names are just Note1, Note2, etc., but that's OK for me since it also puts the time the note was written so I can tell what notes I wrote when.

The best hand written note program is Phatpad although a bit expensive. I tried some of the other programs but Phatware products (Phatpad and Phatnotes) are the best programs for all kinds of notes especially since both have PC versions that sync with your device. You can always run a free trial.

As srvctec said, just play with settings in your Notes, you should be able to start them in Draw mode & have recognition off (are you using Calligrapher or Transcriber ?)

A caveat is, the only way to print them would be by screen copy, AFAIK the "Print" command in Outlook doesn't work with ink notes. At least in 2003, don't know if they fixed it in Office 2007.

PhatPad is also good and it lets you print and costs some bucks.

If Notes work for you consider getting a copy of Inesoft CalcNote. It's a small program that has 2 tabs, one for a simple calculator and another for an ink notepad (saving in regular Note format). When maximized it hovers above any other application, and can be quickly minimized. The previous version is free (don't know if it's still available), the current version is a few bucks. It's very handy and may be just what you want.
