I never feel I have ActiveSync quite buttoned down. I see there is no tutorial for this. Any chance of one of the staff writers having a go at one?

You should check your manual. Or if that doesn't do it go to Dell's Support forums. They have a whole thing devoted to ActiveSync questions.

Ayup, there's a whole activestink forum for a reason. It's buggy, crappy software, the kind that has made a cottage industry out of joking about MS. Wcesmgr logs? Delete .dll files? wft? Sometime, somewhere, there will be software where you can sync without being a geek. Until then there's activestink.

Count me in as wishing for a tutorial that combines the known issues with activesync, the common (not to say universal) workarounds, and the last resorts. (Hell must be being Rollie on the Dell forums recommending through eternity soft resets, reinstalling AS, and reinstalling Outlook [itself crappy software, but that's another post]).

Thanks all, and particularly pswets for crystallising my feelings robustly.

Also I read the transcript of the Microsoft web presentation on ActiveSync. It's clear from that there are are a whole lot of ifs and buts about the software. It seems to need a major overhaul at least, but meanwhile an Aximsite style clear tutorial would be an enormus help to trial and error strugglers like me.

The manual just does not cover unusual circumstances, and there are many.
