HandyShopper user wanting to switch to ListPro, but have some ?s
Title pretty much says says it all. I've been using HandyShopper for all my shopping lists since I got my PDA over a year ago. I want a list program that will allow me to use subfolders for my lists. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that ListPro is the best list program according to many here @ Aximsite and elsewhere in other forums. I downloaded ListPro a couple of days ago for the 30 day trial.
What I like about HS is that I can have one item in each list associated to several stores. Then when I go on my shopping trip, I just select the appropriate store I'm about to walk into and have my list just for that store, without having to look through a list of 30 or 40 items for every store. Once I check off an item, it's automatically checked off for all the other stores I had associated with it, so when I visit each store, whatever I have bought no longer shows up in the list.
Is it possible to set up ListPro like this in some manner. I know HS is a database program and LP is a folder/subfolder program. I spent several hours yesterday (NOT kidding) trying to set up different lists to accomplish what I want, but have had no luck. I thought I could put all of my stores in separate columns and assign those to my items and then use filters. The major drawback to this is that I can't assign more than one store to an item. Plus I don't want to have 15 -20 columns on my small screen anyway. I realize I could hide the unneeded columns, but that would lead to lots of screen tapping for each store I visit, just to get my appropriate list showing properly for that store.
Since there is no real dedicated forum for ListPro, I figured there would be lots of people here who use it who may be able to answer my questions.

While I do like ListPro, and use it extensively, it is too bad that SmartListToGo does not have a version for PPC. SLTG is just not the same when run under StyleTap.

That looks like the perfect HandyShopper replacement. Like you said- too bad it won't work on PPC.

There's really no way to assign multiple categories to an item, so I don't think ListPro will be a suitable replacement for your HandyShopper application.
There could be a way to rethink your use of a shopping list so that Listpro will work, but even though I use Listpro for quite a lot of different things, I also use a separate shopping list application.

Which is a damn shame as the ability to assign an item to multiple categories is one of the defining differences between Windows Mobile and the Palm OS.

Come to think of it, HandyShopper was a Palm application before it was made to work with WM- guess that explains that one. :)
@Julie- I might just have to keep using HS as my shopping list program, although I would rather use one list program for all lists. It just drives me nuts when I have to use more than one program of the same type to get the desired end result.
I have MyList from SBSH and it hasn't worked properly for several weeks because of known issues that they are working on to remedy. And the fact it hasn't even come close to the development stage I thought it would have by now is initially what drove me to search for another list program, but now I don't really see a need for ListPro (especially at $29.95 and the fact it won't even do what I was needing) when I could just hang in there and wait for ML to get fixed and keep using HS. I'm Sure LP is an awesome program and I like the pc version, but since I have SOTI pocket controller, I can just enter all my data into my PDA from my pc anyway.
LP seems like a nice list program, I just can't justify it for the price if it won't do all I need it to.

In response to your question, no, you cannot assign multiple stores to the same item using the Category option. Typically the way I've personally handled this is to do one of the following two things:
1. Create a yes no column for each store and if the item is available at the store I check the yes no item for that store. When I'm in a particular store I can sort by "need it" and the column for that store and it shows me everything I need for that store (or a filter would work as well.)
2. List the store names in the notes pane and just filter by the particular name listed in the notes pane. (Kroger Kmart Meijer)
Multiple category assignements for a particular item is a popular request. I'm not sure if you'll see it in the next release but we're certainly thinking about it.

Have you settled on ListPro? I've recently installed SplashShopper to my Pocket PC and it's looking pretty good. SplashShopper allows you to assign more than one category to a list item.
SplashData also has an interesting list software, called SplashNotes, that might be a viable replacement for ListPro. I haven't installed it yet, but it will be the next piece of software I check out.

Hi Julie,
I tried LP and wasn't happy with the way it worked and not willing to wait months or years for them to update it with features I require.
I tried SplashShopper because it looked really good, but most, if not all screens of that program displayed with missing dropdown menus, or otherwise unreadable garbled text rendering it totally useless to me.
Actually HandyShopper has been updated recently. I posted a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. It's nearly perfect now and I no longer need a general list or shopping list program. There currently are a couple of minor bugs (one of which I discovered) that the author is aware of and will have a fix for in the next week or so. The latest version of HS can be found here.
