Rather than constantly checking my email at work, I would like my Dell Axim X51V PDA to notify me when new mail arrives in my Yahoo Email account. There is a reliable unlocked WiFi connection in the building.
After plenty of searching, I have not been able to determine the best solution. Will Yahoo Go 3.0 notify me when new mail arrives? Do I need to subscribe to Yahoo Mail Plus POP3 forwarding? I could really use some guidance here.
I don't think Yahoo Go provides email notification nor does it automatically search for messages every XX number of minutes.
Instead you'll probably need to set it up as a messaging account (IMAP or POP3 - they offer both), set a schedule in the messaging parameters to have it automatically log on to email and retrieve messages. Then leave the messaging application running (minimize it) and the pocket pc turned on and see if it works as desired.
Seems like you'll run into battery problems though. Do you get that many important Yahoo email messages a day?

Thanks for the reply Julie. When you say to set it up in the messenging account, are you referring to the Outlook application in WM 5.0? And to set that up, I need to buy Yahoo Mail Plus to get POP forwarding, right? (I have no problem with that, if that's what it takes.)
I will buy a second cradle to leave it plugged in at work. Really, I am just trying to avoid the $80/month cel phone bill for web access and email push, when I know there are ways to do it for free with WiFi and my Axim.
You could set an option on your Yahoo email account to alert you to new email via text message sent to your cell phone. Then when you receive an alert, you could use Yahoo 2 Go to review the email....of course, the text messages will go against any text messaging plan you have with your cellphone carrier, but if you don't get a lot of Yahoo email or if you already subscribe to unlimited text messaging, it won't be a big deal....this is how I used to handle email a long time ago.

I am hoping to avoid running anything through my cel phone due to the cost.
I did some more research and it appears that because I am an AT&T (formerly SBC) Yahoo DSL customer, I do have free access to POP3 email. The only thing is my account uses an @sbcglobal.net address, not the @yahoo.com email address I use. If I can figure that one out, I might be able to pull this off without subscribing to Yahoo Mail Plus and without adding to my cel phone bill.

I have Yahoo DSL for years now and also the sbcglobal.net address. With my account and all paid Yahoo! accounts you also have a @yahoo address as well- it's all part of the deal. Any email can be sent to either address and you will get them all in your inbox, or at least this is how mine has worked for the last 5 years.

I don't think you need to buy anything. Just connect your axim to your network. Create a pop server or imap server email account and then log in whenever you want the messages. You would need your yahoo user name and yahoo password to access this.
Way to much hassle to have it notify you it only takes about 10 seconds to look up email.
