MS instant messenger and 15th October

Has anyone upgraded the version of I.M built into WM03 ?

Apparantly if you don't you will not be able to connect after 15th October if you do not download and install a security patch !

I just did that and was not able to connect, the error was that the service is unavailble !

Hard reset and restore and then can connect ok but with the warning about the need to upgrade

any thoughts anyone

I did the upgrade day before yesterday. Just started messenger and was able to log onto the service. I'm logging on through the cradle and Activesynch. Maybe you got a bad download? I don't know what else to suggest.

Ya i did it when the update first came out. You need to do it on your computer and then activesync.

In have re-applied the patch but still get the following message

Logon to MSN failed because the service is not responding please try later.

Iam connected to the net and can visit web sites and download without problems

Could someone post a link to the patch that they have found to work so I can be sure Iam downloading the correct file.

Thanks

Have you ever been able to connect? cause I don't think that's a problem to do with the update at all.

yes, prior to the 15th I reset the Axim and then I could connect, install the patch and then I can't. Your right it may not be the patch but I am really puzzled as to what the problem is.

If I remember right; microsoft shut down msn chatroomst outside north america. Check tech news to be sure. Has something to do with protecting children.

Yes but that was the Euro MSN chat rooms nothing to do with I.M . In fact I can connect to Instant messenger with my desk top PC so it not the account or the service thats at fault its something about my Axim and the new patch.

Thanks for trying

Did you do the soft reset after the upgrade? I followed the instructions on the Website and all works fine.

Dave , I wish I knew, The update has stopped MS Portrait from connecting to MS messenger service as well as in some cases MS messenger. This was confirmed by Microsoft. I have mail their tech support but no answers yet.

It frustrating but all we can do is either wait for them to realise a problem exsist or solve it our selves.

Interstingly I can connect to MS messenger service using the jabber network cliet IMOV univeral instant messenger on the pocket pc
