You can, though trying to sync repetitive tasks and calendar items can be a problem, because Outlook allows inifinite repetition (such as birthdays), while Notes does not - repetition must come to an end. Which is actually one of my pet peeves about Notes.
Anyway, it is very possible, and I use Cadenza mNotes from CommonTime to synchronize. http://www.commontime.com/
I'm responsible for the Domino servers where I work. I do not have Notes or access to Domino from my home PC (that has my Axim cradle). I don't want to either. I use a laptop to connect to work from home. I don't want to replicate my mail file all over the place either.
So what I have been doing (and I'm working on automating this) is while at work I export my calendar as structured text. I then e-mail that to my home account. At home I run a program that I wrote that converts the Notes structured text output into something that you can import into Outlook.
It's been working for me. It's a one way trip and that's all I care about.
I posted another thread asking if anyone was interested in this and interested in helping me with it (testing).
What I would like to end up with is a program that I run at work that exports and e-mails my calendar and a program on my home PC that updates my outlook calendar.
I have no desire to push my calendar from the Axim back to Notes. I use my Axim at work and my Axim is now my official calendar.
That is what I used to do for Groupwise, and it sounds like a great solution.
What I like about mNotes, though, is that I can travel with my Axim as my only computing device and still replicate very easily with the Notes database. I am able to get all of my e-mail and reply if I wish to without having to haul around a laptop, which is something that I do not want to do, and I can check my calendar either on the Axim or at work and I know what my free time is.
I use mNotes to sync to Outlook all the time. There is a category called No Notes Sync that I have in Outlook that prevents that from syncing to Notes at all. You can use that category for calendar, tasks, contacts. I don't sync mail, so I can't speak to that aspect, but I'm able to use No Notes Sync to keep my private schedule private, but still have my Notes calendar, contacts and tasks on my Axim.
The issue I had was with birthdays. I had people's birthdays entered in Outlook before we switched to Notes, with the person's actual birthdates. The problem is that mNotes by default changes an infinite repeating item to ten occurences, so most of my birthday reminders were gone. It took me a while to get all of those reentered.
I have used Lotus EasySync with the Palm I had and it synced with Notes fine. Once I moved to a PPC, EasySync turned out to be a dud! So I use mNotes and it is great, plus I can use ActivSync for my Outlook stuff at home.
