I know getting a virus on the Axim isn't that threatening - a hard reset and it'll be gone - but what happens if I use my Axim to send and receive mail and one of them contains a virus? I'll be spreading it without knowing it, right? Not something I'd want to do.

Does Norton or McAffee sell AV software specifically for the PPC? Has anybody downloaded it and used it yet?

TIA,
Donna

I found this site during my web travels

Have not actually tried it, but it is the only program that I am aware of

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desk...te/overview.htm

PC-cillin™ for Wireless 2.0 offers automatic, real-time scanning to protect wireless devices and computers from potential threats that can occur when downloading files from the Internet, beaming, and during synchronization. It provides portable, easy-to-use antivirus security to defend wireless devices against malicious code and viruses hidden inside files, email, or on the Web. Supports Palm™, Pocket PC™, and EPOC™ devices.

Thank you for sending this my way. Would you read this as it not being useful if you're using a dial-up connection (thereby wired)?

You would think that Norton would have a PPC version... but I can't find it on Symantec's site.

Give Norton a bit and I'm sure they will have one soon

I belive that one of the trials that I used for McAfee once had a PPC virus scanner. It had to be run from the Desktop though and it checked the ppc whenever it was cradled or whenever you scheduled it to do so.

Either way you always had to have the unit in the cradle before it could check it. I have not seen any software spefically designed for the ppc that resided on the ppc.

I have not tried this yet but I would think if your Axim is in the cradle you could just use your desktop anti virus program to scan it. I will try this later when I get home.

Even if that does work, it's not what I'm needing it to do. I'm going to be using the Axim with a modem instead of my laptop on short trips. So I really need to protect my mail on the Axim as a standalone.

I'm sure somebody will have a program for this real soon...

Well I just got home and tried to scan it with Norton while in the cradel and it did not work. Oh well, I'm sure there will be scanners out soon. Let us know if you find one soon. I will be on the look out as well.
