Does anyone know the process to get involved being a beta tester? Specifically WM2003 products. Is there a club out there that you have to know the secret knock or something?
Sometimes you have to already be involved with the company and products. Many don't just hand out their SW for people to test, they go to existing customers, and people they already know to test future versions or new products.
All beta testing I have done was because I was already known.
I have tested for a couple of companies based on my involvement with AW and BT. But I had never tested before I signed on with Astraware (AW). If you have the time to spare, it is a lot of fun :D.

Yeah, I agree with the others. Most beta testing is not just a freely open application process. Astraware began by doing this, but I don't think they even have such an open testing program anymore.
The main reason developers want testers that they have had experience with before, is because they are handing you a copy of their software months before it is released to the public. It just takes one lousy bum to post it on the warez scene, and it's instantly spread to thousands of users before it is even released. This is not how most companies want beta testing to go. :)

Astraware is still pretty "open" in terms of allowing people to test for them. When I began testing last year, all you had to do was sign up. Then there were problems with a few testers sharing games on the internet before they were released (like Jordan said, it only takes one lousy bum .....). Now AW requires you to sign an NDA before you can begin testing, but all in all, it is a pretty painless process.
