Exclamation Help! dotpocket has froze my X3i!

Hi,

I posted this question also in the utilities forum but haven't got a response so I hope this one is a little more active.

Hopefully someone can help me. I have a Dell X3i and thought the dotpocket software might be what I am looking for and the Aximsite discount was pretty tempting. I installed the trial version software.

I changed the screen resolution, the device went into the soft reset and WHAMMO! It started to reset, then I got the WSOD (white screen of death) and then nothing. Whenever I hit the power button I get nothing, zero, zip, nada. I can't seem to hard reset it because the power button does nothing now.

If I put the device in the cradle it says it is charging but won't sync. I have written dotpocket's tech support but I haven't heard anything back yet. I am leaving on a business trip tomorrown and I need my device to work.

I did a backup yesterday so I am not worried about losing data but I can't get the device to reset. I currently have the battery out of it hoping that once the internal backup battery is dead I can reinstall and restart everything.

Any ideas???? Help!!!
-Tim

You said you tried to do a hard reset, and couldn't! Well if you hold in the button and at the same time press the reset button and it does nothing, it is not the fault of DotPocket, since DotPocket does nothing that should prevent a hard reset. I have been running this program on my X3i for many weeks without a hitch. Try hard reset again. I was going to say remove the battery, but the backup battery will prevent that. Let us know what you find out.

Can the backup battery of the X3 be removed? If not you have to unhook your main battery and just let the backup battery run down .. But I'm not sure how long the ackup battery lasts on the X3 .. Can't be tooo long can it?? ..

You really need to give some time before cross posting .. You waited only 5 mins according to the timestamps .. Do you really think responses are going to come to you that fast???

I don't know why the time stamp issues unless it took a while to post. I posted the one, went to lunch and came back and then tried the other one.

Unfortunately still no responeses other than Ed's saying not to cross post. Problem is determining which forum is more appropriate as I never saw a forum dedicated specifically to trouble issues? Maybe that would be a good idea...

Still off-topic, but just an answer to your last question.....All forums can be used for trouble issues. Just post in the one that seems the most appropriate. Many users browse by "View New Posts" anyhow, so they never see which forum it is in to begin with.

Ok, just to clarify. I installed the software (dotpocket). Changed the screen resolution. It said it must reset the device to change it. I told it OK. As soon as it did that, it started to reset, a white screen came up. It would not respond to any keyboard commands or the power button.

Finally the device shut down. The ONLY change was the installation of the dotpocket software. So is this just a freak occurence? I now have had the main battery out of the device for 2 hours. The backup battery from what I understand is a rechargable one good for about 30 minutes. I plugged back in the main battery and nothing. Still no response to the buttons.

Dotpocket says the normal response time is 5 days to email for unregistered software. Well I don't want to pay for software that potentially hosed it up just to get 2-day tech support. I would love the product it if will do as intended. But the only problem I see is my deviced failed after I installed the software. I am not blaming dotpocket per se but I would like to figure out what is going on.

Instead of DotPocket you might want to try Pocket Controller-Professional it supports all Axims and any other Pocket PCs. It has won the Pocket PC Magazine award in this category for the past two years in a row.

There is also a review of Pocket Controller by Chris Leckness on this site at the following link:

SOTI - thanks for the info

So far I've been able to resolve my own problem. I left the main battery out overnight so that the internal one would drain. I thought that whatever files dotpocket was trying to control or use would finally die when the internal battery died. That worked.

I reinstalled my backup (which was about a day ago) and my X3i works fine. I reinstalled dotpocket and same deal as before, WSOD, when it resets itself to put the changes in effect.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the software is interfering with some other program I have loaded. :rolling:

So maybe I can selectively remove some apps and see what ones might be causing an issue.

Pocket Controller doesn't turn the screen to Landscape like DotPocket or Nyidiot does. I had nothing but problems with Nydiot, but none with DotPocket.

Are you using the latest version of Nyditot? The latest version is 3.22. There is also some information specic to Axims on the support page. I have also heard that Nyditot will soon be able to support flips between landscape and portrait modes without a soft reset. DotPocket cannot do this. if you want more information about this new feature you can send email to: support@nyditot.com

Pocket Controller is compatible with Nyditot so when you use these products together you get the the features of both products which is lot more than the other solutions out there.

I had the reverse experience, nothing but problems with Dotpocket and none with Nyditot. I think everyone's mileage may vary (for whatever reason).
