I tried to download some programs for my new Dell Axim X3 and it came with a bunch of different types: ARM, ARMV4, MIPS, SH3, X86. Which am I supposed to use? I have an XScale processor at 300MHz. I'm confused.

Programs designed for Xscale and ARM both work ..

Only ARM based programs will work.

Planet-Ed is correct. There is more available for ARM than Xscale right now, but either work. More Xscale will be coming along.

Her tutorial answers many questions like this, and also addresses the various ways that different software needs to be installed.
