I heard theres a way for you can use VNC ( virtual network computer?) or other remote control software over the internet using hotsnc netwrok protocol.

Does anyone have add't information on this? Does it work? what software to use?

I use gotomypc. There's a version for the ppc. I use it to access/control my desktop at work. It is a pay service, but it has paid for itself many times when I needed it. I don't know about vnc; I've never devoted the time nor effort to get it to work.

VNC is huge. Most IT professionals use it to some extent. Its far more robust than other solutions out there. You can also connect to UNIX/Linux/Mac OS/ Windows or other clients without any effort.

VNC has years of work behind it, is free and is cross platform.

Although VNC is great, I found I have superior performace using the Terminal Services Client. You simply right click on My Computer, go to the Remote tab, and allow Remote Access. I heard you may need XP Pro for this, but it is definitely faster than VNC. The downside is that you can't use the same user simultaneously (you must log in with with an account for remote access and if you choose an user that is currently open on the PC it will log that person out). In the situation where you need to show someone what to do remotely, VNC would be the better choice, but if your only access the PC yourself then Terminal Services is the way to go.

Service Pack 2 coming up for WinXP allows multiple concurrent sessions.

I recently upgraded my wife's desktop at home to WinXP Pro SP2, and Terminal Services still doesn't seem to support multiple concurrent sessions - if she's logged in and I try to log-in via TSC, a pop-up window on my Axim X5 warns that it'll log her off in order for me to log in remotely.

Oh well, maybe someday M$ will get it right.... Sure!

I do agree that TSC is a LOT faster than VNC, but you do give up image quality (only 8 bit with TSC) to get that speed. Unless you already use a VGA PPC, with QVGA you're already giving up a lot on image quality, so I think the tradeoff is well worthwhile.

Anyway, this VNC/TSC stuff is quite interesting, but obviously we're still pretty darned far from the holy grail of browsing capability via our handhelds (c'mon already, Minimo and/or Opera!). At least with VNC/TSC, I can excecute Javascript commands that my webmail account requires for full functionality (even NetFront doesn't work completely!).
