Birthdays as Appointments?

I'm having some trouble marking appointments as birthdays..

What I want to do is use something like Task+ to split up appointments I have defined within outlook by their category, but when I enter an appointment (using pocket informer 4) the only 2 categories available are "personal" and "business", there's no Birthday, or Anniversay or anything else.

I can create new categories but PI and Task+ don't seem to recognise a category I create and call "Birthday" as a birthday, it's just a user created category called "Birthday" to them and thus, not a built in category (like personal and business) I can't fitler or display all appointments that are Birthdays.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Do I need to create birthdays as something else, not a recurring appointment? (a task maybe?)

Help?

You know that if you enter the birthdate information into the persons contact it will automagically put it into the calendar right?

When I'm in Contacts and fill in the birth date, it carries it over to the calendar automatically and it even puts how old they are in perenthesis. Try that.

In pocket informant you can put in an all day appointment labeled like this "John Doe's Birthday". You set the start date for the day they were born (this will give you their age in the appointment heading every year) and then set it to appear on the same day every year (EX. Every June 17th). Pocket informant will automatically register this as a birthday, and when you switch the calendar filters to show birthdays, it will display these with their ages (if you put in their birth date). You will need to close and reopen PI for everything to show, but this works for me without a problem.

I didn't know about this, I was going about it all wrong, I suppose adding a contact just for a birthday isn't a big deal and it all seems to work as intended..thanks for the help! (all of you)

You can also download this freeware app from this link or at the downloads page of aximsite (search the downloads using birthday).

You can upgrade the software at a cost - but the basic version does a good job of organising birthdays. I didn't really see the advantage till I gave it a go! (Uses the birthdays you store in your contacts - just as you plan to do)

I use TaskPlus (freeware today plug-in), which places birthdays and anniversaries on your today screen. You can choose how far in advance they will show up (14 days, 20 days, etc), and can change the viewing format. Here's the link to the website: http://gkokot.free.fr/ipaqp02a.htm

You may want to check out TaskPlus 1.33, it's a today plug in that lets you filter appointments and tasks by their category (birthdays, or whatever) on the today screen, so you can list birthdays right in front of your face where you'll never forget them.
