I have an Axim X5 and lately it has taken to doing something strange namely, I switch it on and within 5 seconds it switches off, I re-start it and all is fine. It makes no odds whatsoever whether I am connecting to the pc through AS or just using it independently it still does the same thing. The odd thing is if it is live long enough to open an app when I re-start it the app is still open - is this the Ax going into suspended mode or is it powering down and is there anything I can do about it. Its not a great irritation but I would like to resolve it.
I have an Ax X5 Advanced with a Mugen power 3800 battery and I always keep the the SD & CF cards in it.
Its always been a bit erratic about powering down with AS but for that I suspect AS - could this be a power issue with the battery or is it my settings that need tweaking.
I would be really grateful for some help and ideas on this one.

I have the same basic set-up/habit. Never had the problem you describe, but the Soft Reset is often the panacea for such strange happenings.
Unfortunately, if it doesn't work, my next suggestion isn't quite so palatable.
A........(dit-dit-dit-dahhhhhhhh).......Hard Reset. But before that drastic step,
FIRST: Make A Back-Up!
Second: Wait until some others have kicked in on this.

Hey, Alastair, me too! I've just started having the same problem, exactly. I have the same setup, too, except I swap out sd cards often and use gps or wifi as well as a memory card in the cf slot. Still, there's always something in the slot. Hmmmm.
I soft reset at least every day (after my daily backup), so it isn't that. I'm going to dust off and try the standard Dell battery tonight to see if it has anything to do with the Mugen battery.
How old is your Axim? I have had mine for a little over a year, and it has just recently started doing the same thing. Nothing major, but just enough to be irritating.
It takes my Axim quite awhile to boot up from a soft reset. Longer than 15 seconds, definitely, but shorter than one minute. I think.

Sorry guys I didn't make myself clear I did the sof reset and it took seconds to re-boot and what I meant was the AX had been running for a minute without closing down, it lasted until this evening and did it again, the Ax is 6 less than months old and I don't recall the problem prior to the new battery but if it happens, as detailed above with a Dell battery perhaps it is something else. I am loathe to do a hard reset if I can avoid it though I fear it may be the answer, but if it is just a minor irritation I'll have to live with it but anyone else who has had this/found a cure let me know and I'll try anything prior to a reset.
Ok it was still playing up so I've doen a hard reset and learnt the true value of Sprite Backup, the whole process took a couple of mins. Will let you know how it goes and ask for more help if I need it.
