Cleaning up old stuff

Are there any handy free programs that will delete things like old dead shortcuts and the like? I've been searching for over an hour in the threads here, but I guess I'm just looking in the wrong places.

I'm sure it's here :p

Goto snapfiles.com and download a program called Adrom Software Speed Clean. I think this might be along the lines of what your looking for to help out.

look for one called "remover" It might not be free now but was a couple months ago. Well worth the $ if he is charging now.

I also support Pocket Mechanic but it is not free. It costs about $12 but worth every penny IMO.

AsBullgog says, Remover used to be freeware but may not be now. It is another excellent program which will do many things including cleaning up the Registry, removing invalid shortcuts, temp and junk files, duplicate files and more.

Try Cleaner available from Webattack (now known as Snapfiles) use the top tab to navigate to pocket pc>freeware>everything else.

Pocket Mechanic is also good and worth the $'s

Throw me into the Pocket Mechanic fan club. It is a wonderful app and certainly worth the $$'s.

I saw some posts @ freewareppc about the remover program removing critical files and requiring a hard reset. Any similar issues with Pocket Mechanic?

As far as I can tell, no. I have used Pocket Mechanic to clean my PPC and remove dead registry keys on my PPC. It has not caused any problems for me and my PPC reset time is faster. I always recommend a backup before doing this.

I have used Pocket Mechanic since I got my AX without screwing anything up. Make sure you are keeping a current backup copy.

haven't used pocket mechanic, but I recommend Where Is My RAM? (WIMR, should be in the resources/downloads section). It ranks everything on your axim in order of memory usage, so finding (for example) temp files that PIE won't clean out is a cinch.

Thanks all. Remover's still freeware, and looks like the choice for me as I'm currently very short on funds.
