I have been searching the forums to make sure that this subject hasn't already been posted and I cannot find anything, so if it is already out there I apologize. I am looking for some note taking software with good handwriting recognition and I want to try and weed out the inferior products. Can you please give me some feedback on software that you are currently using?
I use the new version of ListPro Pro for note-taking. Though ostensibly a "list-making" program, it's structure makes it ideal for me as a note-taker. You can set a hierarchy of folders; for example, a "Project" folder, in which each project becomes a list. Within each list, you define a basic template with date, note type (e.g., meeting, telcomm, idea, don't forget, etc.), and whatever categorical data you want. Each item in the list can have a built-in note.
For example, if I have a meeting with my client, I just tap the project list, tap the "new" button, tap today's date and select "Meeting" from the category list, then go down to the notes section and just take my notes there.
When I'm done, the program syncs automatically to my laptop, which has the same ListPro software on it.
When I need to review my notes, I just open the project list, select the option to view the notes pane, and tap to the left of each item and quickly view the notes pane.
Is it perfect? No, but it's darn useful, and ListPro is a great program to have on your Axim.
I like NotesToday. It may not be the best nor the most full-featured notes app, but to me it's very handy. It's a Today plugin so you can just write your notes directly on your Today screen. It's supposed to be $5 but if you use the code 6F0788, it will be $2.50. There is a recent review of this here.

It depends on what you are taking notes on, I guess. Do you need to sketch or just write? When I was in the U doing chemistry, I needed to make many diagrams in my notes.
For just text, you have a lot more options. (Look at Noterrific, it is a free hierarchical notes program with a desktop component.)
I think if I was still in school, I would pop for a Tablet PC. OneNote is pretty nice.
