I wonder if somebody could make an app that...

There are several circumstances under which I prefer to have the backlight stay on, as well as turn off the auto-power off. (Warring with PocketWiNc, watching a movie, etc.) However it gets pretty annoying having to go and change the settings every time I want to switch. I wonder if one of you more advanced programmers out there (I only do eVB, and not very well at that) could make an app that sits in the title bar and lets you quickly switch these settings with a simple tap. I don't imagine it would be that difficult. Thanks in advance!

With the X3i you can hold down the power button for a couple seconds and the backlight turns off, hold it again and it turns on. You would think you would have that feature too.

I am not simply wanting to turn the backlight on and off... I want to be able to quickly enable or disable auto-dim and auto-off.

If you use Icbar you can make a icon for the built in screen brightness utility.

with the x5 if you push in the jog dial button till it clicks (dont worry it wont break), then push up and down on the navigation button, the screen brightness will change

Do people not read? He doesn't want to adjust the brightness he wants to turn auto dim on and off with a single button push, I've been thinking of getting into some PDA programming, I'll do some reading to see how easy/hard this is.

I spent a few hours reading up on this, harder than I thought..

My ultimate solution would be an icon on the toolbar of the today screec (down the bottom), you click on it, a little 2 item menu pops up, "Lights on" and "Lights off". Lights off would set all the dimming options to the defaults (i.e. shutoff after a certain time
) and "Lights on" would set them all so the screen never dimmed and the Ax never went into suspend.

Is this what you were thinking? After a few hours of research, I'm no closer to figuring out how to do it, but I love a challenge :)

I imagine that it would be easy to make one that is launched via the Start Menu. One would just have to know what registry values to modify. I'll look into it when I get home.

I am really interested in having this option also in my Ax. Just like in my laptop where I can have power options to Stay On or Sleep. It's a pain in the a$$ if i'm using my gps and it turns off after a few minutes because i forgot to swith the power settings.
