Palm-Pocket PC: "Memo" vs "Notes"

I was using a Palm device (Handsping Visor Deluxe) for several years before I got my X5. With my Visor, I hotsynched with Outlook 97 then later 2000. I ActiveSync my X5 with Outlook 2000.

The Memos in the Visor made sense: you can read their full title/subject ... which can be a full screen-width long ... and they are sorted by the most recent appearing at the bottom of the list.

However, with the Pocket PC 2002's Notes, I just see a lot of folder icons, with truncated title/subjects, and sorting by name, which works, and sorting by date ... which doesn't (they all seem to have almost the same date!)

Mind you, the vast majority of the Notes are imported from my Outlook 2000. But still ... the Pocket PC 2002's Notes seem "lame" by comparison to the easy to read Palm-based "memos" !

Comments?

Thanks !

Actually, there are a few things that you can do better, like handwritten notes, typed & handwritten together, drawings, etc.

Also, Palm always used the first line in the Memo as it's title. PPC defaults to that, but you can 'tap & hold' on the Note title and choose 'Rename' to set it to whatever you like.

The date system is strictly the last time it transferred or updated the note, as opposed to the Notes original date.

Hello fellow ex-Visor user :D. Since switching to Pocket PC, I quit using the Notes all together. Instead I would write on .psw Pocket Word format. This way you have more functionalities and you could sort and create folders anyway you would like. I ended up converting everything in Notes to Pocket Word or Repligo format (if no further editing is needed).

I did eventually purchased PpcPad when it was on sales. I really like the fancy skin :p. Oh yeah, it is a good handwritten notes taking tool as well.

Just list notes title ?

Hi there,
I think one thing that would be good is if we could remove the date & size from the list presented when you go into PPC notes.
Eg, in the windows world having a 'column width' that lets you make the title full width might help identify the relevant note.

Anyone know if there is a hack for this ?!!

cheers
Mike

I have used three different PDAs over the years. I first started with the Apple Newton, then moved to Palm (IIIx) and then to the Dell Axim X5. Although I use the Notes application on the Axim, it is by far the worst of the three I have used. It does not seem like it would be all that difficult for Microsoft to figure out a somewhat simple notes program. I have problems with the titles, editing the note on the device other than the one that created it, filing and organizing.

I have looked into other options, but nothing really seems to meet my needs, so I continue to use the Notes program versus a third party solution.

Despite this short coming, I have recently ordered my new Axim X30 as lost my X5. There are just too many other positives about the Axim that I just love.
