No pictures in IE

I seem to recall setting an option to turn off pictures while browsing in IE (to save storage space). But it's a pain. Problem now is I can't figure what I did (if anything) and how to change it back. The screen just shows the place holder box and symbol.

At the bottom of the IE screen (on what would be the taskbar in Windows) there is a button that looks like a page with a red X in the upper left corner. Click it.
