Exclamation Software Problems -- database program -- Sprint DB -- ActiveSynch Problems

I dont know if anybody else has experienced this problem with the SprintDB database program but I will try to explain my issue as simply as possible.

I am trying to import data from my desktop PC to my Axim for use with SprintDB. I am not sure if the problem lies within the Sprint DB program, the ActiveSynch program, or the Axim itself but here is what happens.

In ActiveSynch I click Tools ---> Import Database Tables and I am taken to a dialogue box that is called "Export From Mobile Device to Database. I am expecting to see an "Import to Mobile Device from Desktop" or some other such language to indicate the data transfer is from the desktop C drive to the Axim.

I am getting the identical dialogue box (Export from Mobile Device to Database) when I click Tools ---> Export Database Tables.

Is anyone having a similar problem or is there something I need to know or do? After I click the "Import Database Tables" I see an exchange of information flowing from the Mobile Device to the desktop just before the 'incorrect" EXPORT dialogue box appears.

Your feedback/assistance is welcomed.

I had the same problem when I was evaluating abcDB. The Import menu item under tools always gave me the export dialog.
I'm using ActiveSync 3.6.
I can't give the exact steps I took to sync my access database to the Axim. It basically involved setting the Pocket Access checkbox on and then right clicking the Access database under the Infomation Type at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to select the Access database under the Settings.
I'm at work now and my notes about what I did are at home. I'll look at them when I get home and edit this post.

Additional Info

Upon doing further research I believe I may have isolated the problem. It appears that certain settings must first be made so that the Axim will know where to look on the desktop for the databases, etc.

Unfortunately I have not been able to locate a step by step guide as to how to do this. I have seen several step by steps that talk about double clicking the Pocket Access entry under the Tools ---> Options menu but that brings me to several screens that are totally foreign to me. Especially since I am looking to synch ODBC files (.dbf) files rather than microsoft access files. I am asked for a bunch of different information to set things up but there is no guidance in helping me through the various screens.

I think my problem requires a solution for the synchronizing .dbf or other ODBC database files with step by step guidance through all the screens and steps necessary to transfer first the settings and then the files to the Axim.

Any further assistance is appreciated.

Why not check with SprintDb's help desk? I have had to contact them when I first started using SpringDb. They seem to be based in Korea and the individual responding to my question was quite helpful.

Thanks for the suggestion. The folks at kaione have been friendly and somewhat helpful but they dont seem to be able to follow my problem step by step.

The more I think about it the more I believe the problem I am having is related to the initial setting up of the synchronization of files -- ie where the files will be be found on both the desktop and the Axim

Everything seems clear when I go Tools --> Options and double click the Poclet Access line.

I am taken to the Database Synchronization Settings box (which I do not see covered in any of the Help files) that shows no files listed (since I dont have any microsoft access files on my desktop, just .dbf or ODBC files).

When I click the "ADD" button I am taken to another screen which is called "OPEN" and lists a default folder on my hard drive. There are no files listed in the box because file type is listed as Microsoft Access Databases in the File Type dropdown menu.

When I open the drop down menu box and highlight "ODBC Database" a new screen appears that is called "Select Data Source" wsith two tabs -- "File Data Source" and "Machine Data Source" -- none of which seem to be covered in the Help files.

The box asks for a DSN Name and I dont know to what that refers.

The description reads "Select the file data source that describes the driver that you wish to connect to. You can use any file data source that refers to an ODBC driver which is installed on your machine" -- that just adds to my confusion.

I'll leave off here to get some feedback but I think I am getting a bit closer to being able to synch files between my desktop and Axim.

Thanks again for your help.
