I've tried everything to get sync to work beween my Axim and Outlook 2002 on my XP-Pro Dell PC. Including eliminating all tasks, contacts and calendars from both. (I don't try to sync mail.) I uninstalled and re-installed Outlook 2002. Still no help. I tried to replace Outlook 2002 with Outlook 2000 from the Axim CD but I don't have the 25 character code!!!

Everything else is great on the Axim although my order with Dell was so full of issues and fumbles, my long time relationship is currently in question. I have been a Dell customer since the late 80's and currently have three Dell Pentiums in operation on my home network.

How about giving us some information on a few more symptoms?

1. Are you using a USB Hub? Some are not as reliable as others, and Activesync wants a nice stable connection. Connect directly to the pc.
2. Are you using a firewall? Firewalls interfere with the Activesync communcations sometimes, particularly if you have high security set. Diasble the Firewall.
3. Are you using the USB connectors on the front or back of the pc? Remarkably, the back ones seem to work better. No reason, just observation.
4. Are the Dell drivers installed? (Connect the Axim, look at Device Manager, you should see a device called Dell Axim USB Sync with no ! or ? present. If it's not there, or if it has the ! or ?, then the driver is NOT installed.) Reinstall or update the driver.

I wish I knew why that happens. On my Micron the front usb connectors are good, one of the ones in back is useless.

Most likely is the that the internal wiring to the front hub passes some other electronic component and is picking up extraneous signals. Some USB devices ignore it, but the Axim (and others) are sensitive to it. Same problem for some hubs, I suspect. USB is a fragile protocol.

Question

I am having similar problems. When I put my Axim in the craddle, most of the time the sync does not connect. I have reinstalled 3.6 several times. I checked in the Control Panel under install hardware and there is an error message: "device not responding to ít's driver. (code 33).

I have then gone to the driver tab and hit update...it says the latest driver is installed?

When it does sync....it often gets partially through and then disconnects.

All of my "notes" from Outlook are downloaded onto the Axim, but I can't open any of them. I don't have that problem with any Word or Excel files.

I also am having a problem with the brightness control. I set it for fairly high, but when it goes off....it dims down....when I hit the screen nothing happens, I have to go in and manually slide the adjustment up?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem
a lot of times I get "Attention Required" for the outlook SSPs
(but no problems with the files or picture viewer)
but it does work occasionally

I thought it was just my problem - but from the thread it seems it might be a dell driver/activesync problem afterall... :rolling:

anyway two things you can try (that helped a little to me - as I said it does work from time to time)
1. install the "Collaboration Data Object" for outlook 2002 (see http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q299625)
2. check the .pst file (the outlook personal folders file) for errors - this can be done using pstscan.exe (you can use the find option to find both your .pst file and the pstscan program)

Can you describe this a bit more in detail? Are you saying that the screen dims after a period of inactivity? Or, are you saying that when you power it on it comes on dim? If the latter, remember that the power switch has two functions--on/off and bright/dim (page 12, Users Guide). A quick click is on/off and a longer press is bright/dim. If you turn it on and hold the button down it will go from off to on to dim. Just click it and it should come on bright after a very slight pause. You don't have to hold down the button until it comes on--doing that will make it come on but be dim.
