Mapopolis Question

Please help a "newbie":

How good is this software?

If you download multiple counties do they merge together to give you a larger map that you can then drill down into...or do you always have to change counites?

I will not need GPS ..so is Basic good enough for the average user or should I move up the spectrum?

Any other advice please let me know. Thanks!

The software is excellent. It works exactly as advertised.

You have options on the maps. You can choose to load only one, or you can load multiple, or you can do what they call load contiguous. Load one loads one. D'oh. Load multiple loads whichever you choose, whether the actually touch or not. Load contiguous will try to load everything it can, up to the limit of memory, even if they don't touch. I don't like the way contiguous works, so I use load multiple and choose all the local counties and cities I need. I can't speak to the quality of the maps except for the Navigator series, which are excellent.

Yeah I agree this was the best option for me as well, I bought the slightly more expensive map, I think theres 3 kinds, I think its one of hte best map programs out there and the olny drawback is the pay per country thing, but hey if you only really need a few counties and need alot of info on those counties, this map is the one for you.

I don't see where the maps are all that expensive. Five years ago, I bought an ADC map of my county for $12. (That's a color book, 10" x 14", about 30 pages, soft bound). Now there's no use comparing paper with a PPC (voice directions -vs- legibility, "Find" feature -vs- index, etc.) But I think that if I wrote to ADC and asked them to sell me all the county maps in the lower 48 states, they might charge me more for shipping than Mapopolis does for all the maps.
