PocketRemote

I'd like to try my Axim out as TV remote and was wondering if anyone has tried this with an Axim?

There are a couple of TV remote programs out there, but the limited IR range (~5-6 ft.) make it practically unusable. If you really want to do it, look into an IR extender.

Yes, Rhyno is exactly correct. I have been running the PDAwin software for about a month now. The Axim would only reach about 3-4 feet for me originally. Bought a Terk LeapFrog IR extender. I put a small square of soft velcro on the top right of the back of Axim (near IR sensor). This allows me to just stick the extender on when I want to use the remote, and take it off during normal usage. BTW, I did have to open up the extender and bend the LED receiver more toward the center so it would pick up the Axim's IR (WEAK). Works great now....about 30-40foot range. I'll post some pics of what the Ax looks like with it on there over the weekend sometime. The Terk LeapFrog was one of the smaller extender's I've seen.....some are just BULKY!

I think some pics of your setup would be welcome here, deftech. The question of "using my Axim as a remote" comes up fairly often, and your experience would be appreciated by many aximsite.com members. Looking forward to seeing it.

There is Ultramote, which uses a Compact Flash card to extend the range of the IR to 50+ feet. It has been tested and is compatible with the Axim.
