McAfee VirusScan woes

This is my first post! Geez, I'm so nervous...

I got my X30 from Dell about a week ago, and purchased with it the McAfee VirusScan PDA subscription that they offer. I installed and attempted to update, but was denied by an error message basically telling me that I had to first register my subscription per the instructions that were being e-mailed to me. A week and several re-installs later, I've received no e-mail and still can't update. I even established another e-mail address to start a totally fresh registration process and met the same results. Online registration at mcafee.com isn't available for VSPDA. I know there's not a significant virus threat to PDAs (yet), but I paid and gitting stiffed makes me all mad inside.

I've tried McAfee Tech Support, but they seem to be completely inept. The program runs flawlessly otherwise and my net connection is functional, so I dont think it's a Dell issue. Anybody?

Fixed

Just incase anyone is interested:

It was an easy fix. I should've done this in the first place. I got rid of McAfee and installed Norton.

I can't help you as I use Airscanner --- I don't care much for Mcaffe products either, but it wouldn't get in the way of me helping somebody.

Sorry I couldn't help, but I haven't any experience with Virus Scan PDA.

Oh they do now, well thats new --- Norton products are better then Mcaffe all around now I guess.

Yeah. My PC runs the whole Norton Suite and I love it. I should've just stuck with what I knew. Lesson learned.

I'm using the McAfee VirusScan PDA version that came on the CD accompanying the Axim with no problems. You not only have to register online but after installing the software, under the settings screen within the McAfee PDA VirusScan program, make sure the email address that is listed there is the same one you used to register online. If no email address is there or it is wrong, change it to the one you used to register. You should have no problems updating after that. If you do, let us know.

I had the same problem, I was able to connect but it wouldnt accept my registration. I talked to dell via chat support and they credited my account for the purchase price. And I still have the program.

In my case, as others have noted, their is no response from McAfee to the email address I provided, and the product doesn't seem to exist on the McAfee website. Also, even though the product is labeled as version 1.0 the readme identifies it as a beta.

Ditto. E-mail address was right, connection was solid, something very vital was just failing to happen. Oh well, the Norton is working just swimmingly.

I still can't see the usefullness of a PDA virus scanner; how many viruses has it actually detected? Any false positive problems?
