Worried Developing applications for the Axim

I am basically a developer and am interested in developing applications for the Dell Axim. Can anyone suggest a :
- general programming environment to test/debug my application before i port it?
- a method to port my tested applications from a desktop to the Axim?
- the platform required to make this project work?

Look forward to your replies.

Thanks in advance guys,
bawajeee.

Well you may be in luck, depending on what
you want to do, But if you want to do simple
stuff MS couldnt have made it easier!..

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...pocket2002.asp

They have Embedded Visual Basic and
Embedded Visual C++, Both of these
are FREE, and freely downloadable...

Only limitation as far as I know is
with visual basic it does not generate
exe files, only .VB files, but these are
executable on the Axim.

I am not sure if Embedded visual C++ has
that same limitation or not, I doubt it.

I am using the free tools now and have been for the past two years. The eVC++ is a true compilier and creates much smaller footprint files. I am currently porting over a program that I wrote a couple of years ago in eVB to eVC++. There are some limitations in eVC++ that you can't do that you could do in VC++, but there usually are work arounds.

A good site to goto for help in eVC++ is Pocket Projects

This site is sometimes slow, but it does have a good search feature and you can get answers if you are patient.

Hope this helps,
-Eric

What kind of apps are you going to develop? I have been looking everywhere for an app that would allow me to develop machine histories. I also need to look up parts #'s for making repairs. If anyone knows of anything out there please let me know. All I can find is vehicle maint. type stuff.

Music to my ears. Thanks Eric. Looks like I have to go and learn eVC++. The days of interpretive code are long passed ...
